Job Description

The Employee Health Nurse RN will provide health services for hospital employees through programs which are conducive to the prevention of illness/injury and the maintenance of healthy productive individuals. Works closely with Infection Prevention to ensure surveillance for infection in personnel and assist with exposure investigation and implementation of prevention methods. Develops and provides immunization programs to provide protection from vaccine preventable infections and coordinates annual TB testing and Flu vaccination programs. Collaborates with risk management and unit directors in the management of job related injuries and work restrictions. Collaborates with Human Resources for FMLA program.

  1. Nursing Care
    1. Review of pre-employment Medical Inquiry Health Screening and referral for clearance if needed
    2. Interprets and evaluates examinations, laboratory reports and screening tests accurately to determine current health status, vaccine needs, freedom from communicable disease, etc.
    3. Ensures appropriate medical care for those who sustain work-related injuries and/or exposures
    4. Responsible for the drug screening program to promote a healthy and quality team
    5. Coordinates and administers TB skin tests and immunization programs
    6. Administers OSHA Blood/Body Fluid protocol as outlined in policy and maintains statistical data
  2. Record Keeping
    1. Maintains accurate team member files and records
    2. Records pertinent employee health data utilizing computer based programs/LINKS or manual documentation to promote timely and efficient access to required information
    3. Maintains required employee illness reports and statistics.
    4. Monitors trends in team members injury and illness and reports those to directors/leadership as needed
    5. In collaboration with risk management, coordinates the employee's return to work clearances following treatment and recovery. Ensures all appropriate forms are on file in employee health record
  3. Educating and Training Staff
    1. In conjunction with Education Department, determines educational needs based upon employee assessment, policy/procedure/practice changes, root cause or sentinel events, and/or as required by regulatory/accrediting agencies.
    2. Develops and implements education programs based on current government/national requirements for employee safety and injury prevention
    3. Counsels employee in the event of exposure incidents or positive infection test results
    4. After exposure counseling, ensures arrangement of prompt follow-up treatment while demonstrating compassion for employee needs and concerns.
  4. Other Duties as assigned
    1. Develops and coordinates implementation of policies and procedures that ensure the prudent and efficient provision of high quality health care services
    2. Participates on committees in order to ensure the provision of quality health care services
    3. Utilizes all equipment, supplies and resources in a prudent and efficient manner and ensures all equipment remains in proper working order and ensures appropriate disinfection of patient use equipment
    4. Works in conjunction with Risk Management, Infection Prevention, and specific unit manager to coordinate return to work and restricted duty situations
    5. Orders supplies and medications
    6. Consistently performs 12 organizational Service Standards focused on Values, Service, and Quality.

Experience - 1 year Employee Health experience or 2 years nursing related experience
Education - Graduate of accredited RN program
