The Communications Lead, Leadership & Functional Communications, develops and delivers communications strategies that reach the hearts and minds of our people, inspire action, and support our long-term business strategy.

This is a dynamic, multifaceted role that partners closely with functional services leaders and subject matter experts across the globe. In this role, you’ll lead key communications work that connects our people to one another—and to our purpose—so they clearly understand how their work brings Stantec’s Strategic Plan and brand to life every day.

You’ll be part of the Leadership & Functional Communications team within Employee Communications. Your work will focus on company-wide communications supporting various functional services teams including Health, Safety, Security, Environment; and Growth & Innovation. You lead by example and demonstrate exceptional relationship management skills and accountability.

The successful candidate thrives in a fast-paced, complex environment where priorities can shift quickly. It calls for strong initiative, sound judgment, efficiency, flexibility, attention to detail, and the ability to navigate sensitive information with care.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver impactful communications plans, including creative campaign concepts, implementation approaches, and timelines.
  • Manage partnerships and relationships across the business to align practices to successful outcomes.
  • Create compelling content across channels, including email, intranet articles, thought leadership, and video briefs, adapting messages for different audiences and formats.
  • Build a deep understanding of operational priorities and audience needs, including language considerations, to deliver targeted and effective communications.
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with leaders and internal partners to enable clear, effective, and timely communications.
  • Identify and shape key issues and messages by gathering, analyzing, and integrating information from multiple and sometimes competing sources.
  • Communicate with purpose to inform, engage, build alignment, and support meaningful behavior change.
  • Confidently manage multiple priorities, assessing urgency and impact while maintaining quality and accuracy.
  • Monitor and measure the effectiveness of communications across channels, using insights to inform future decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with the rest of our marketing, communications, and public relations organization, including our graphic design and video, digital, North America operations teams and others.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with exceptional prioritization skills
  • Ability to communicate with partners at all levels
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing environments
  • Excellent collaboration and strategic planning skills
  • Ability to work within a team as well as independently and with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated proficiency with web-based tools and Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience working within another large organization is considered an asset

Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary degree in communications, public relations, English, journalism, or marketing preferred
  • 7+ years’ progressive experience working in a communications-related role for large, complex organizations.
