In this position, you will support the ePowertrain Development Group as the High Voltage Charging Engineer – ECU owner, EVCC, which encompasses the communication and logic of the High Voltage Charging system with the charging station. This individual will be supporting the control strategy, requirements and implementation of global features/functions for the HV charging system, ensuring cohesive software and network communication is achieved with the charging systems controller, the EVCC. You will also be investigating future evolution of control strategies that would lead to optimal charging control and performance for our customers. Additional responsibilities include conducting and participating in functional safety reviews, DFMEA and supporting the definition of charging system test & sign off.

Position offers a starting salary range of $86,000 – $110,000 USD

Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience.

What You Drive at DTNA:

  • Lead the development of the electric vehicle charging controller (EVCC) for our electric vehicle programs
  • Creation, development and maintenance of the component requirement specification for the electric vehicle charging controller (EVCC)
  • Coordination with suppliers for the implementation of requirements from the EVCC component specification. Know-how and negotiation for the fulfillment of requirements according to specification
  • Lead the design, validation and production (DVP) readiness of the EVCC working collaboratively with suppliers for hardware and software tests for on-vehicle lifetime and durability
  • Selection and recommendation of internal components for the electric vehicle charging controller (EVCC)
  • Develop strategy for diagnostics and programming, processes, and tools for the EVCC in accordance to the software and electronics processes and tools from Daimler Truck
  • Support NAFTA-specific regulatory requirements for OBD/diagnostics pertaining to electric truck regulation in conjunction with the software and electronics group from Daimler Truck
  • Support diagnostic and programming requirements integration of the EVCC into electronic systems on Freightliner electric trucks, ensuring seamless support in tools and systems in engineering, manufacturing and service.
  • Lead the documentation of the EVCC to the manufacturing plants, with the creation of bills of materials, part numbers, revisions, drawings and parameter creation (e.g. ODXStudio, CANdelaStudio, Monaco, etc.) to enable configuration management for the charging system
  • Creation and support of wiring designs and wiring diagrams of the EVCC to enable seamless communication of the controller with the multiple vehicle networks existing in the vehicle
  • Change Request (CR) management for the EVCC, modification of the component specification, documentation and negotiation with the suppliers for implementation of new requirements or bug fixes observed in the controller
  • Responsible of the maintenance of the Vehicle Messaging Matrix (VMM) pertaining to the charging system controller (EVCC)
  • Lead over the air (xOTA) flash-ability and parameterization of the EVCC for software updates, remote support of test vehicles and production service campaigns
  • Support the sign-off of the charging system features and functions in test trucks
  • Support initial commissioning and startup of new electric test trucks.
  • Maintenance and support of the charging test bench (charging lab) with hardware and software updates along with test case development and management for the execution of verification tests for the EVCC
  • Partner with global engineers for a conjunction development and sign-off of the EVCC as a component of the charging system
  • Diagnosis of reported field complaints and issues pertaining to the charging system, doing analysis of the observed vehicle behaviors and proposing solutions so customers have a seamless charging experience
  • Support interoperability workshops with the infrastructure team with controller updates, diagnosis and improvements relevant to the EVCC and the charging system
  • Support the purchasing department with the selection of suppliers pertaining to the electric vehicle charging controller. Partner with the purchasing department with the negotiations of change requests that may have commercial impact and review in conjunction for upper management sign-off
  • Follow product validation, manufacturing engineering, service, IT and quality guidelines for the approval and sign-off of the electric vehicle charging controller (EVCC)
  • Support functional safety analysis for the high voltage charging system. Supporting the definition of the relevant systems and components, support the creation of relevant documentation (e.g. HARAs) along with product creation process.
  • Ensure the electric vehicle charging controller (EVCC) adheres to Functional Safety ISO26262 requirements, working with FuSa and compliance engineers to define requirements
  • Verify and develop high voltage charging features by participating in testing activities and workshops. Work closely with global software developers regarding the implementation of the requirements for electric vehicle charging controller (EVCC)
  • Provide engineering support to vehicle production team to resolve manufacturing process issues related to the electric vehicle charging controller (EVCC) and the high voltage charging system
  • Participation in relevant committees to help shape the alignment of the high voltage charging team within the broader engineering organization
  • Broaden your expertise outside of your immediate responsibilities & become an expert in eMobility.

Knowledge You Should Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering or Computer Science
  • 2-4 years of experience in electric powertrain charging / high voltage systems development
  • Must have 2-4 years of experience with development of systems / software for electric vehicles with familiarization on vehicle networks, CAN / communication protocols
  • Must be able to demonstrate familiarity with all aspects of ECU development and high voltage controller technology
  • 2-4 years of experience with the design of embedded systems, especially controls development for series production of zero emission vehicle projects
  • Must have knowledge of interaction of mechatronic systems in automotive industry
  • Demonstrated development experience working with cross-functional international teams to implement software & control requirements
  • Must have proven record of accomplishment of working in electrification of vehicles and enjoying working in a dynamic environment.

  • Must be well-organized, able to handle multiple, detailed tasks, and work professionally with various levels of DTNA management.
