MUFG Securities is seeking a Vice President, Emerging Market Trader to join their Asia Credit Trading desk in Hong Kong. What you'll do:

As Vice President, Emerging Market Trader based in Hong Kong, you will play a pivotal role in executing trades for emerging markets USD denominated credit bonds during Asia hours. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve quoting prices for clients via the Sales team, expanding relationships with key investors across Asia ex-Japan and Japan markets, and actively marketing to grow the US Credit Franchise. You will be entrusted with managing risk within defined parameters, ensuring accurate trade capture, booking, and settlement processes. In addition to your core trading duties, you will act as a reliable back-up trader for other Asia trading books when required. Your expertise will also be leveraged in preparing insightful trading commentaries on EM credit flows, supporting sales teams through client visits, assisting in achieving revenue targets for the desk, and providing valuable market perspectives to bond syndicate teams. Success in this role requires not only technical proficiency but also strong interpersonal skills to foster collaborative relationships both internally and externally.

  • Quote prices and execute trades for Asia ex-Japan and Japan based clients via the Sales team for emerging markets USD denominated credit bonds during the Asia time zone under the parameters set by the Asia Credit Trading desk.

  • Develop and expand relationships with key investor accounts in the region by marketing in a SalesTrader capacity to increase flow and strengthen the US Credit Franchise.

  • Manage risk within established parameters and limit frameworks of the trading desk, ensuring correct trade capture, booking, and settlement including back-to-back tickets between client-facing entities and risk-taking entities.

  • Act as a back-up trader when necessary to risk manage other Asia trading books for holiday coverage, demonstrating flexibility and reliability within the team.

  • Prepare and distribute trading commentary or recaps on emerging market credit flows to keep stakeholders informed and engaged.

  • Support Sales teams in client expansion efforts through client visits and relationship-building activities.

  • Assist the trading desk in achieving its trading revenue budget by contributing your expertise and insights.

  • Provide market colour and Asia investor perspectives to bond Syndicate teams to support primary bond issuance initiatives.

What you bring:

Your proven experience as Vice President, Emerging Market Trader will include substantial time spent at a sell-side institution specialising in credit bond trading. You bring deep familiarity with emerging market credits—particularly those from Korea or India—and have cultivated strong relationships with key investors throughout Asia. Your ability to connect with clients is matched by your attention to detail when it comes to trade execution processes. You are comfortable preparing market commentary that informs both internal teams and external stakeholders. Flexibility is one of your strengths; you willingly step up as a back-up trader when needed. Your collaborative nature supports sales expansion efforts while your dependable communication style ensures clarity across all interactions. These qualities combine with your technical expertise to make you an invaluable member of any trading desk focused on emerging markets.

  • 5-7 years or more experience in credit bond trading gained at a sell-side institution is essential for this position.

  • Demonstrated expertise in emerging market credit with specific experience in Korea or India is highly valued.

  • Established knowledge of key investors within the Asia region enables you to build dependable relationships quickly.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills allow you to collaborate effectively with colleagues across sales and trading teams.

  • Strong attention to detail ensures accurate trade capture, booking, and settlement processes are consistently maintained.

  • Ability to provide insightful market commentary demonstrates your knowledge of EM credit flows.

  • Flexibility to act as a back-up trader for other desks shows your commitment to supporting team goals.
