Animal Emergency Center of Sandy Springs (AEC Sandy Springs) is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician to join our overnight Emergency & Critical Care team
This position is not entry level The ideal candidate brings prior experience in emergency medicine, surgery, anesthesia, or critical care and is confident working in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. As an Emergency Veterinary Assistant or Technician, you will be a critical member of the overnight team, supporting veterinarians and credentialed technicians in delivering high-quality emergency and critical care. 🐾 What You’ll Do

As an integral part of our emergency team, you’ll play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care. Responsibilities include:

• Triage and assist with emergency examinations and treatments
• Obtain patient histories, vitals, and presenting concerns
• Administer medications, IV fluids, and emergency therapies as directed
• Place and maintain IV catheters; assist with venipuncture and sample preparation
• Monitor anesthesia and assist with surgical and emergency procedures
• Provide advanced nursing care for hospitalized and ICU patients
• Perform and process diagnostics including:
  • Digital radiography
  • Bloodwork and laboratory testing
  • Urinalysis and basic cytology
• Accurately maintain medical records and treatment logs
• Provide clear, compassionate client communication during emotionally charged situations
• Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked treatment environment
• Collaborate closely with veterinarians and team members to support optimal patient outcomes

Who We're Looking For

• This is not an entry-level position
• Minimum of 2–4+ years of hands-on clinical veterinary experience required
• Prior experience in emergency, critical care, surgery, or anesthesia strongly preferred
• Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT/LVT/RVT) preferred, but highly skilled Veterinary Assistants with advanced technical experience will be considered
• Demonstrated proficiency in:

1. Anesthesia monitoring and recovery
2. IV catheter placement and fluid therapy
3. Emergency patient handling and restraint

• Multitasking in a high-acuity environment
• Strong communication, teamwork, and critical-thinking skills
• Ability to remain calm, professional, and compassionate under pressure
• Physical ability to lift, restrain, and stand for extended periods
