Schedule
Swing-only position
2 PM to 12 AM
11 shifts per month (10-hour shifts)
Rotating schedule allows for extended time off—blocks up to 7 consecutive days
No more than 4 days on in a row
Weekend coverage shared equally among swing ER doctors (1/3 of weekends)
Always supported—overlap with both day and overnight doctors ensures you’re never alone on shift
This unique schedule supports a true work-life balance, giving you both variety and the freedom of longer breaks throughout the month.
Cases
As an Emergency Veterinarian at VCA AVCC, you’ll see a diverse and challenging caseload, including:
Trauma and critical care
Acute illnesses such as respiratory distress, vomiting/diarrhea, or seizures
Toxicities and urgent metabolic disorders
Advanced imaging cases in collaboration with specialty departments
Surgery is not required, but doctors with surgical skills—or those eager to learn—are encouraged, as we aim to expand ER surgical capabilities.
With access to specialists across numerous disciplines, you’ll have the support, mentorship, and resources to practice advanced medicine and provide the best outcomes for your patients.
