Job Description

The Animal Referral Hospital – Essendon Fields is a multidisciplinary veterinary facility comprising three key departments: Emergency and Critical Care, Small Animal Internal Medicine, and Surgery. Our mission is to deliver exceptional Emergency and Specialist services, with our Emergency and Critical Care department operating 24/7 year-round.

Joining our team means you'll have access to advanced diagnostic imaging options, including MRI, CT, Fluoroscopy, Endoscopy, and Ultrasound. We also perform in-house laboratory tests with an internal IDEXX laboratory station and ABL90 flex blood gas.

You'll collaborate with dedicated veterinarians, veterinary nurses, customer care representatives and clinic assistants who are passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of animals and their devoted owners.

Located in the Essendon Fields Airport Terminal – we are situated in a convenient location surrounded by cafes, supermarkets and pharmacies – which means you will never run out of coffee or snacks.

The Role:

  • Permanent part-time and casual positions available

  • Combination of hospital shifts and consulting shifts

  • Varied shifts including days, nights, and weekends

  • Supportive and collaborative team environment—if you're new to ECC, we offer shadowing shifts with experienced ECC vets to guide you

About You:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent, with Veterinary Registration in Victoria

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in emergency veterinary practice, though it’s not essential

  • A strong team player committed to fostering a positive workplace atmosphere

  • Eagerness to contribute innovative ideas that enhance the hospital’s growth and success

  • Dedication to providing compassionate, high-quality veterinary care

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact tactfully with colleagues, pet owners, and referring veterinarians
