The Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA), under the authority of the Emergency Management Act, leads the coordination and co-operation of all organizations involved in emergencies and disasters. This includes emergency and disaster prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.
The Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) is accountable and responsible to the GoA, to Albertans, to their communities, and to industry for the protection of people, their property, and the environment from the effects of emergencies and disasters. Alberta relies on a decentralized system for managing the various types of emergencies that occur every year. The AEMA accomplishes its objectives by leading the co-ordination, collaboration and co-operation between all entities involved in prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery activities within this diverse system.

As an Emergency Social Services (ESS) Officer with the Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA), you will play a key role in supporting communities before, during, and after emergencies. Working within a decentralized provincial public safety system, you will serve as the Government of Alberta’s subject matter expert on the human impacts of disasters and lead coordination with municipalities, Indigenous communities, NGOs, and provincial partners. This role combines regional ESS work, incident response, program development, and provincial level coordination to ensure Albertans receive timely and effective ESS support.

Required University degree in Emergency Management, Social Work, Public Safety/ Administration, Emergency Services or related, PLUS 4 years related experience or equivalent as described
Equivalency Related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience, or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
For Example:
Related 1 year certificate PLUS a minimum 7 years of experience
Related 2-year diploma PLUS a minimum 6 years of experience
Related minimum 8 years of experience
