As a Patient Care Technician (PCT) in the Emergency Department at Deaconess Gateway, you'll be an essential member of a multidisciplinary team that delivers compassionate, high-quality care to patients with a wide range of medical needs.

What You'll Do

Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse, you'll provide direct patient care and support services that contribute to patient comfort, safety, and positive outcomes. Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting patients with personal care needs and activities of daily living
  • Monitoring and documenting vital signs and patient observations
  • Supporting patient comfort, safety, and mobility throughout their emergency department stay
  • Assisting with treatments, procedures, and basic life support activities as directed by the care team
  • Communicating important patient observations and changes in condition to nursing staff
  • Helping maintain efficient patient flow in a fast-paced emergency environment
  • Upholding patient rights, dignity, and confidentiality in every interaction

As a frontline caregiver, you'll play a key role in ensuring patients receive timely, compassionate care when they need it most.

  • Basic Dysrhythmia Certification
  • Emergency Department Orientation Program
  • Hospital-based education and competency development
  • Optional Advanced Splinting Training
  • Ongoing learning opportunities in emergency patient care

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification within six months of hire
  • Basic Dysrhythmia Class within six months of hire
  • Successful completion of:
    • PCT classes as required by the unit
    • Emergency Department orientation program
    • Required hospital classes and competencies
  • Ability to safely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation

Preferred

  • Previous healthcare experience is helpful but not required
