Summary: Sheridan Community Hospital is a Critical Access Hospital dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality healthcare to our close-knit rural community. Our team values personalized care, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence. We are seeking a caring, dependable ER Physician to join our patient-centered team. This is a crucial component of the practice. Emergency Department Physician triages, assesses, plans, and provides patient care to patients in an emergency unit.  Assesses patient, performs comprehensive physical examinations, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination. Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory and radiographic tests. Conducts patient education, writes prescriptions, and prepares discharge summaries and maintains clinical records in line with regulations and standards.  .

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides medical treatment to patients with emergency and critical conditions. Instructs and counsel patients, perform physical examinations, conduct and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic studies, and laboratory tests.
- Resuscitates and stabilizes patients and transitions care to an appropriate endpoint whether that be ICU, general inpatient bed, another provider, another hospital, or home.
- Obtains health histories and assesses the state of patient  health  in order to determine health care needs and documents findings in the medical records
- Performs, orders and interprets routine laboratory tests; notifies patients of results.
- Refers patients to appropriate specialists for follow up care.
- May routinely perform such therapeutic procedures as (but is not limited too): Laceration repair, wound care, cast and splint application, abscess incision and drainage, procedural sedation, regional block anesthesia, arthrocentesis, lumbar puncture, thoracentesis, urethral catheterization, establishing venous access, arterial puncture and blood gas sampling.
- Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed.
- Administers medications and injections; sutures minor lacerations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Documents appropriately in the medical record by accurately recording and reporting patient conditions; assures medical records are completed as required, when patients are transferred participates in any scheduled review for quality and completeness of documentation.
- Instructs patients and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. Provides necessary patient information.
- Manages medical and surgical emergencies
- Attends required meetings; participate in committees as required.

- Maintains and ensures confidentiality of Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Performs other related work as required.
- Participate in quality improvement projects. Attend training and meetings as required
- Maintains awareness of current quality and safety measures on the unit and follows guidelines or reporting measures to ensure safety of patients, visitors, and staff.
Knowledge and skills in quality improvement and research methodologies.

QualificationsEducation, Experience and Other Requirements:
- Medical Degree from accredited medical institution or program
- At least 3 years of residency program completed
- License to practice medicine in state of  Michigan
- Completion of Emergency Medicine Board Certification preferred or in process to complete.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work and think quickly in high stress environment
- Physical Demands: The job requires fifty percent (50%) of the time standing and/or walking, frequent lifting, pushing, and/or pulling loads up to 25 pounds.
Accident/Health Hazards: The tasks performed on the job produce exposure to injuries (cuts, fractures, strains, burns, etc.) obtained in use of equipment, hazardous material or health hazards (based on contact with communicable diseases) that could result in permanent or long-term illness or injury.

Sheridan Community Hospital and Clinics is a 22-licensed bed critical access hospital with 10 being certified as "Swing Beds"​ or transitional care nursing, located in the heart of Montcalm County, on M-66. The hospital serves Montcalm and parts of Ionia, Gratiot, Mecosta, and Isabella counties. In 1999, SCH became certified to provide care for patients requiring longer-term stays.

We have continued success in broadening our capabilities in the area of emergency services, same day and short stay surgery, patient-centered care, outpatient services, visiting physician specialists, and the offering of on-going community education programs.

Services continue to expand and include emergency care and a walk-in clinic (24 hours, 7 days a week), inpatient and outpatient services, medical/surgical care, same day or short stay surgery, rehabilitation services, CT scanning, MRI, ultrasound, X-Ray, mammography, bone density testing, and various other diagnostic testing, as well as, an affiliated family practice - Sheridan Care. Additionally, SCH offers a variety of health and wellness programs like monthly education workshops, health screenings, community health fairs, and blood pressure clinics.

Sheridan Community Hospital has evolved in recent years from a hospital to being part of a much larger health system. It includes a hospital-owned family health practice, located in Sheridan, across from the Hospital. Currently, the practice has three fantastic providers who see patients daily and provide exceptional services.
