Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for Casual Senior Medical Officers to join our new Emergency Department Based at our Springfield campus, these roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening May 2026. This brand-new facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With a mix of public and private beds across ICU, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Emergency, Medical, Surgical and Paediatric services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.

The Emergency Department has 56 treatment spaces, including 5 resuscitation bays, 17 adult acute, 7 paediatric, 9 rapid assessment, 6 ambulatory care and 12 short stay beds. These are being opened in a staged process as the hospital develops.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits!

Emergency Physicians will be responsible for the day-to-day clinical operation of the Emergency Department, ensuring delivery of effective, safe and high-quality patient care. The Emergency Department will be seeing both adult and paediatric patients and the candidates will work across all areas. There will also be opportunities to assist with change management within the Emergency Department to achieve ongoing improvement and delivery of safe, consistent, responsive and high-quality services.

About you

To be considered for a position applicants should:

  • Currently have or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Hold a Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM)
  • Be available for weekend and after-hours work.
  • Candidates applying for consideration for an SMO position will be considered for selection if they have successfully completed the FACEM fellowship exam written and clinical components within 3 months of the date of completion of this selection process AND are elected to Fellowship within 12 months of the selection process.

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.
