The primary purpose of the EMT is to provide emergency care to patients who are being transported or treated during an ambulance run. The EMT assists any medical provider during an emergency to get the patient to the care center.

EMTs are supplemental, on-call position. EMTs are assigned to a team of three EMTs, and the teams are placed on a rotating schedule of on-call status by the EMS coordinator, which includes days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
