He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council Emergency Management has a great opportunity for an Emergency Management Advisor to join the team.

This is a critical role for ensuring our systems and resources are ready to respond in the event of an emergency. You’ll work on our risk management policy, framework, procedures, systems and tools to support and ensure our readiness. This role includes on-call duty officer or duty manager obligations. This role will support Emergency Coordination Centre operations, or other assigned roles, during emergency activations. Employees should expect to be called on to assist during a response, often outside of ‘BAU’ hours.

You could expect to work on:

  • Supporting the delivery of the Operations Unit work plan (and broader AEM work plan) in accordance with the Group Plan
  • Ensuring AEM’s systems and resources are ready to respond to an emergency. This may include equipment, communications, facilities, fleet, processes and procedures
  • Supporting AEMs Volunteer Programme, including health and safety management systems
  • Contributing to the delivery of training and development programmes for AEM

The role is well-suited to an excellent communicator who can translate complex information into concise messages. You’ll have excellent time-keeping skills and attention to detail, and delivering on challenging outcomes, competent decision-making and sound judgement will feature in your skill set.

We are specifically looking for:

  • Experience in emergency management or a related field such as emergency services, crisis management, defence, infrastructure
  • Excellent stakeholder management, fostering strong, trusted and collaborative relationships
  • Public speaking, training or workshop facilitation experience
  • Working understanding of the principles of the Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS) desired but not essential
  • Working understanding of Fleet Management, alternative communications/systems experience is desired but not essential
