Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

The purpose of this position is to provide overall responsibility of development and execution of the Packaging Engineering strategy and team located in Stryków, Poland. Specific responsibilities include the design, development and implementation of packaging materials and solutions for new products, the standardization/optimization of existing packaging solutions to deliver improvements in cost, new technologies/materials, capability, quality and providing technical expertise with manufacturing, business teams/commercial to provide support for packaging related needs or issues.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach and develop the Packaging Engineering team located in Stryków, Poland
  • Drive the Packaging Engineering strategy and support alignment with site priorities and global packaging objectives
  • Lead the design, development, qualification and implementation of packaging solutions for new and existing products
  • Identify and execute initiatives focused on cost reduction, quality improvement, sustainability and packaging standardization
  • Serve as the site Subject Matter Expert for packaging materials, technologies, processes and design solutions
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, engineering, logistics, commercial teams and global packaging partners to support business needs and resolve packaging-related issues
  • Lead packaging validation activities, including testing, qualification and implementation of new or improved packaging designs
  • Partner and collaborate with suppliers to identify innovative materials and optimize existing packaging solutions
  • Communicate regular progress updates to key EMEA stakeholders to drive alignment and engagement

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Packaging Engineering or a related engineering field
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Design or Packaging Development
  • Minimum 3 years of experience leading teams and complex cross-functional projects
  • Advanced knowledge of packaging materials, packaging technologies and packaging design principles
  • Experience developing, testing and implementing packaging solutions in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong project management, analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach to decision making
  • Fluent communication skills in both English and Polish
  • Strong leadership, coaching and people development capabilities

Nice to have

  • Experience working with SAP
  • Knowledge of packaging design software
  • Experience with packaging automation solutions
  • Knowledge of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) tools and sustainability methodologies

Travel Requirements

  • International travel – 15% or less
