Job Description

The Senior Manager, EMEA Accounting & Reporting is a managerial leadership role responsible for directing and coordinating EMEA accounting & reporting operations across 40+ legal entities. The role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant accounting, statutory, and tax reporting under US GAAP and local GAAP, primarily through leading a recently established team of accounting managers and qualified professionals in Budapest. The role focuses on operational control, prioritization, issue resolution, and delivery against deadlines, as well as supporting the team with establishing themselves in their roles, especially with regards to the statutory and tax reporting activities.

How You'll Make an Impact:

EMEA Accounting & Reporting Oversight

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for EMEA accounting & reporting covering 40+ legal entities
  • Set clear expectations, priorities, and timelines for the accounting close and reporting cycle.
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP and Bio-Rad’s global accounting policies across all EMEA entities.
  • Manage, mentor, review and challenge outputs prepared by the team, focusing on quality, completeness, and risk.
  • Drive continuous improvement opportunities and standardization of processes across the teams.

Close, Reporting & Controls

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring deadlines are met through effective team coordination. Ensure timely and accurate sign off to corporate team.
  • Ensure robust balance sheet ownership, variance analysis, reconciliation standards, and issue tracking across entities.
  • Validate the completeness of the region’s cross-charge accounting to ensure the accounting is compliant with the transfer pricing model.
  • Maintain effective internal controls and ensure timely remediation of issues and audit findings.
  • Ensure there are no out of period postings or control deficiencies, and no topside entries due to posting errors or missed entries.
  • Escalate risks and delays proactively, with clear mitigation plans.
  • Coordinate timely preparation of the US GAAP income tax provisions for EMEA entities in the Global Access Management module.

Statutory Reporting, Tax & Audits

  • Review the statutory performance and profitability to call out any exceptional items that need to be escalated or discussed with any cross-functional leadership team.
  • Provide managerial oversight of statutory financial statements and local tax filings across EMEA.
  • Direct and coordinate statutory audits, acting as senior finance contact for KPMG CoE management and BDO global management of Bio-Rad account.
  • Ensure all statutory reporting and audits are completed within Statutory deadlines.
  • Oversee and support the team in managing any ongoing tax audits, in collaboration with the corporate and regional Tax function.
  • Ensure audit deliverables, timelines, and responses are managed effectively by the team.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Lead coordination with FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Revenue Accounting, Technical Accounting, and other functions like HR and Legal among others to ensure smooth information flow and issue resolution.
  • Ensure the EMEA accounting team provides timely, accurate inputs to group reporting and other stakeholders.
  • Communicate clearly with senior finance leadership on status, risks, and required decisions.

Operational Project Governance

  • Provide accounting leadership oversight for any projects and initiatives involving finance
  • Ensure teams are appropriately resourced and that accounting impacts, controls, and reporting requirements are addressed.
  • Maintain operational stability while projects are executed.

People & Cost Management

  • Lead and manage 3 direct reports (accounting managers) and provide oversight of 12-15 indirect team members.
  • Focus on delegation, coaching, performance management, and issue escalation.
  • Ensure effective workload distribution and continuity during peak periods.
  • Manage the EMEA accounting operations expense budget, ensuring spend remains within approved limits.

What You'll Bring:

Preferred Education:

  • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration (preferred)
  • Professional qualification: CIMA, ACCA, ACA or internationally recognized equivalent

Experience:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting, financial reporting, and controllership within a large multinational organization, ideally across multiple EMEA jurisdictions
  • 5+ years leading managers (second-level leadership), with experience managing teams through transitions and building team capability
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing accounting and reporting for a large portfolio of legal entities (30+) across diverse European regulatory environments
  • Strong track record in statutory reporting, tax compliance, and audit coordination across multiple countries, including working with Big 4 audit firms at a senior level
  • Life sciences, healthcare, or diagnostics industry experience is a plus

Technical Knowledge:

  • Expert-level US GAAP knowledge and strong working knowledge of multiple European local GAAPs
  • Solid understanding of corporate income tax, tax provisions, transfer pricing, and SOX/internal controls
  • Proficiency in SAP (required); experience with BlackLine, OneSource, Power BI, and advanced Excel is preferred

  • Fluent English required; additional European language(s) strongly preferred
