Embryologist I-(260003R4)

A Brief Overview

Serves as Andrologist/Embryologist; will be trained and must be willing to learn and perform all aspects of Andrology/Embryology under direct/indirect supervision of senior staff and/or lab director.

What You Will Do
  • Follows established policy and protocols for quality control, embryology/andrology procedures, , and standard set forth by state and federal agency including Ohio department of health, College of American Pathologist (CAP), and Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
  • Performs clerical responsibilities with attention to detail.
  • Participates in a learning environment, including journal club, and is engaged on continuing development and education.
  • Performs retrievals, conventional inseminations, and proper preparation for upcoming cases.
  • Carry out oocyte and embryo grading, fertilization checks, embryo transfers and assisted hatching.
  • Maintains proper communication and interaction with patients, clinical staff, and laboratory personnel.
  • Fosters a team oriented environment.
  • Required to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required.
  • Participates in alarm call.
  • Performs assignments as requested by Lab Director

  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor's Degree of science in a Biological Science (Required)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge of reproduAbility to learn to use stereo, compound and inverted microscopes. (Required proficiency)
  • Handling hazardous specimens; manipulation of oocytes and embryos under the microscope. (Required proficiency)
  • Management of aseptic techniques. (Required proficiency)
  • Basic computer skills. (Required proficiency)
  • Good communication skills. (Required proficiency)
  • This role encounters Protected Health Information (PHI) as part of regular responsibilities. (Required proficiency)

  • Active biology including male and female reproductive systems, embryology and in vitro fertilization. (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
  • MT from American Association of Bioanalysts (Required) and
  • EMG Certificate from American College of Embryology (Preferred)
