As the Embedded Software Lead for the Aptiv Connected Services Edge Application team, you will lead the design, development, and lifecycle management of embedded edge software for an automotive data logging and IoT connectivity platform that supports Aptiv’s best-in-class cloud-based automotive intelligence capabilities . This role spans embedded Linux, edge-to-cloud connectivity, OTA updates, embedded security, and vehicle data acquisition.
You will combine deep hands-on engineering expertise with strong people leadership, guiding a high-performing team that delivers scalable, secure, and reliable in-vehicle software on fast-paced, cutting-edge automotive programs.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
Lead the architecture, design, development, and enhancement of edge application software fora connected automotive data logging and IoT platform, including vehicle data acquisition, cloud telemetry, data upload, and OTA application and firmware update workflows.
Own software delivery across the full lifecycle, including planning, implementation, integration, validation, release, and sustainment.
Drive robust solutions for edge-to-cloud communication, OTA update workflows, embedded security, and data acquisition.
Investigate, root-cause, and resolve complex production issues across distributed and embedded systems.
Ensure engineering quality through coding standards, design reviews, test automation, and performance optimization.
Collaborate with systems analysts, platform teams, cloud teams, and other stakeholders to improve reliability, scalability, and operational performance.
Team Leadership, Mentoring, and Supervision
Lead, coach, and supervise a team of embedded software engineers, setting clear goals, priorities, and ownership.
Build team capability through structured mentoring, technical coaching, and growth plans tailored to individual strengths and development needs.
Conduct regular 1:1s, performance feedback, and career development discussions.
Establish high standards for execution, accountability, engineering rigor, and collaboration.
Monitor team performance through measurable delivery and quality metrics (for example: predictability, defect escape rate, cycle time, and test coverage) and drive continuous improvement.
Support hiring, onboarding, and retention of top engineering talent.
Foster an inclusive, high-trust team culture where engineers are empowered, engaged, and aligned with business goals.
Coordinate work across global teams and time zones, proactively managing communication, dependencies, and risks.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
10+ years of professional C++ software development experience.
5+ years of technical leadership experience in embedded software teams.
Proven track record of designing, developing, and debugging complex embedded software systems.
Experience with automotive in-vehicle networking protocols such as CAN/CAN-FD and LIN.
Strong proficiency in Linux environments and shell scripting.
Experience working in Agile software development environments.
Experience applying software coding standards and best practices (for example: MISRA, C++ Core Guidelines).
Experience with service-oriented software design principles.
Strong knowledge of debugging, simulation, profiling, and system optimization techniques.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including clear technical documentation.
Experience collaborating effectively across international teams and time zones.
Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and manage team performance.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Experience with modern automotive networking technologies such as DoIP and Automotive Ethernet.
Experience with machine-to-machine communication over Cellular and Wi-Fi.
Experience in automotive connected applications, telematics, or vehicle data acquisition.
Experience in system architecture definition and technical roadmap planning.
Experience in embedded security development and tooling, including TARA.
Experience with A-SPICE and ISO 26262 functional safety development, including ASIL-rated software, is a strong plus.
Enthusiasm for and practical experience with AI-assisted development, agentic coding workflows, and responsible use of AI tools to improve engineering productivity and software quality.
Experience with Go (Golang) development.
Experience leading cross-functional initiatives across software, systems, and cloud teams.
