The opportunity
We are seeking a skilled Embedded Software Developer to join our software team at Hitachi Energy, Grid Automation Products in Västerås.

In this role, you will focus on the performance optimization and feature enhancement of user-space applications running on real-time Linux systems. You will be part of a scrum team and will work closely with other software and hardware teams to ensure our mission-critical embedded systems meet stringent performance and reliability requirements. Our team operates using agile methodologies to foster collaboration, flexibility, and continuous improvement.

An important aspect of this role involves getting familiar with an existing and extensive codebase. You will work closely with experienced developers to learn and take ownership of this codebase.

How you’ll make an impact

· Performance Optimization Analyze and optimize the performance of user-space applications to ensure they meet real-time requirements. Use profiling tools to identify bottlenecks and optimize CPU, memory, and I/O usage.

· Ethernet Communication: Design, integrate, enhance and fine-tune ethernet communication in embedded systems, including redundancy protocols such as IEC 62439-3 (PRP, HSR) and IEEE 802.1w (RSTP).

· Feature Development Write, test, and maintain high-quality code for embedded systems. Develop and optimize applications for real-time Linux environments, ensuring low-latency and high-reliability performance.

· Automated Testing Develop and maintain automated tests to ensure the reliability and performance of user-space applications.

· Collaboration Work closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, system architects, and QA teams, to deliver optimized solutions.

· Documentation Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for code, optimization techniques, and system configurations.

Your background

· Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

· Proven experience in embedded software development and real-time operating systems (RTOS), as well as using profiling and debugging tools for embedded Linux (e.g., ftrace, perf, Valgrind).

· Proficiency in C/C++ programming.

· Experience in industrial Ethernet communication, specifically IEC 61850, IEEE 1588 PTP & IEC 62439-3 ethernet redundancy protocols.

· Passion for software development, excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

· Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Additional merits
