The Ammortal Chamber integrates five science-backed modalities into one immersive session. Our clients include wellness clinics and spas, sports teams and athletic departments, hotels, and individuals who bring the Chamber into their homes.

We are a small team with a startup culture. Hardware and software engineers, health professionals, and operators work side by side. Since shipping our first product we have grown steadily, and the software that drives the Chamber is now at the center of what comes next.

This role offers hands-on experience across the whole product, close mentorship from a senior engineer, and the chance to see your work running in the field.

What is this role and why does it exist?

This role centers on Linux systems software for the Chamber: building application-level software that runs on embedded Linux and interfaces with hardware over common serial and bus protocols (the software layer that sits above the firmware and drives the product). You'll occasionally reach up the stack into frontend work as well, giving you end-to-end understanding of the system.

You'll need a solid programming foundation, comfort in Linux, and real curiosity about how software talks to hardware. You'll work directly with the hiring manager, who will guide your ramp-up and grow your responsibilities as you build confidence. This is a role where you can go deep in embedded Linux and systems software while learning the full shape of a shipping hardware product.

Responsibilities

1. Develop features and fixes for Chamber application software on embedded Linux, with guidance from senior engineers
2. Learn and contribute to the software that communicates with hardware over serial and bus protocols
3. Write clean, tested code and participate in code reviews
4. Take part in quality assurance to help keep Chamber software reliable
5. Help investigate and resolve customer issues, escalating when needed
6. Assist with maintenance of early-gen Chamber software
7. Contribute to frontend work as needed
8. Collaborate with hardware, operations, and customer experience teammates

Requirements

What technical knowledge do you need to perform in your role?

Required

• Proficiency in at least one programming language (Go, Python, C, C++, JavaScript, or similar) and willingness to learn others
• Comfort working in Linux environments and on the command line
• Experience with version control (Git)
• Basic understanding of software development lifecycle and testing practices

Preferred

• Exposure to Go or C for systems-level work
• Any experience with hardware, microcontrollers, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, or similar hobby or coursework projects
• Familiarity with serial communication or bus protocols (for example Modbus, I2C, SPI, RS-485 or similar)
• Exposure to Docker or containerized deployments
• Familiarity with Debian-based Linux systems
• Exposure to MQTT or other IoT communication protocols
• Familiarity with shell scripting (Bash)
• Exposure to Next.js, React, or TypeScript
• Familiarity with a project tracking tool (Asana, Linear, Jira, or similar)
• Familiarity with AI-collaboration tools and agents

Qualifications

Must haves

• 1 to 4+ years of professional software experience

Nice to haves

• Degree or coursework in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field, or equivalent self-taught experience
• Personal or open-source projects that touch hardware, Linux, or systems programming
• Prior internship or early-career role in embedded systems, IoT, or backend development

• Pay range: $90,000 - $120,000
• Benefits: 80% health, dental, and vision covered.
• Flexible paid time off.
• Location: Hybrid in the Asheville, NC area. Onsite at least 2 days per week, can be more some weeks depending on current assignments.
• Relocation assistance available for the right candidate.
