As an Embedded Firmware Specialist, you will contribute to shaping and evolving the firmware architecture for Eaton’s next‑generation and sustaining platforms across three‑phase UPS, energy transition, and EV charging product lines. You will collaborate with senior engineers and cross‑functional teams to drive alignment across platforms, influence key technical decisions, and support solutions that balance performance, reliability, safety, cybersecurity, and long‑term maintainability. In this role, you will work closely with global products, controls, hardware, and verification teams, helping guide technological direction across current and future Critical Power Solutions products and platforms.

Job Responsibilities:
• Contribute to the successful delivery of critical power solutions’ products that meet customer expectations and Eaton’s safety, quality, reliability, cost, and schedule objectives.
• Collaborate with cross functional teams to define requirements and support system level designs for three phase UPS systems, high power DC chargers, energy storage, and related power electronics products.
• Shape and evolve firmware architecture across platforms and product variants, including interfaces, modular structure, and key non functional requirements such as timing, reliability, safety, and maintainability.
• Lead architecture and design reviews; set engineering standards; and align practices across global regions and projects.
• Partner with product managers and technical product owners to shape requirements, establish platform roadmap, and drive sustaining releases and next-gen platform plans.
• Work closely with controls and hardware teams to enable effective hardware software co design and robust embedded implementations.
• Partner with V&V teams to help identify appropriate verification methods, including HIL/PIL strategies, design verification planning, and diagnostic approaches, and support traceability from requirements to test evidence.
• Provide technical leadership during critical issues, supporting root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
• Keep current on embedded firmware practices and relevant industry standards; integrate pragmatic improvements into Eaton’s firmware processes.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.

• Minimum 5 years of experience defining firmware architecture or leading firmware design for complex, multiteam or multi product embedded platforms.
• Minimum 3 years of experience with RTOS based development (e.g., FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or equivalent).
• Minimum 2 years of experience developing firmware for power electronics systems (three phase UPS, inverter/rectifier, DC DC controls, power conversion topologies) or adjacent high reliability embedded domains.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical or Software Engineering.
• Experience developing control algorithms using model based or auto code generation tools (e.g., Simulink, Stateflow).
• Experience with embedded Linux.
• Hands on experience with firmware and controls validation using HIL platforms (e.g., OPAL RT).

Skills:
• Strong understanding of power systems and power electronics domains.
• Experience working in regulated or security conscious environments, applying secure development practices.
• Ability to read and interpret low level hardware specifications and schematics.
