The Mission

As an Embedded Architect you will be part of the Employee Permission Team. You translate business vision and enterprise architecture into effective solution designs by acting as a strong partner to the engineering and product teams. You execute the global Business & IT Roadmap process, with centralized designs and (logical) global decompositions, analyses market and IT-trends and, based on this information, contributing to the strategy of the organization.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Act as the bridge between Domain Architects and DevOps teams.
• Understand business context, needs, rules, architecture, organizational structure, culture, capabilities, and processes, ING‘s technology standards and solutions
• Document "as-is" and "to-be" processes and designs, outlining necessary changes for migration (e.g., roadmaps, migration plans)
• Organize and support DevOps teams workshops and presentations to facilitate design and decision-making (e.g., Architecture Content Meetings, Architecture Review Meetings)
• Design and develop POC’s which are used to confirm assumptions and are easily transferable into MVP’s by the engineering teams
• Focusing on implementation details, following the architectural plan and release objectives
• Apply architecture patterns, including Request/Reply, Event-driven architecture (e.g., Kafka), Microservices, and Resilience patterns (e.g., retry strategies)
• Stay up to date with architecture trends, particularly in the low latency space, well-architected framework and cloud native applications
• Identify and escalate instances of non-compliance with organizational policies, procedures, or regulatory requirements
• Ensure alignment between code development and architecture/design guidelines, guiding developers and escalating compliance issues when necessary
• Define and validate architecture patterns including Microservices, Event-Driven Architecture, Request/Reply and Resilience patterns
• Guide engineering teams on implementation approaches and ensure alignment with architectural principles
• Design and develop proof-of-concepts to validate assumptions and de-risk complex technical decisions
• Support the modelling of business concepts such as teams, roles, permissions, clients, documents, deals, cases, and other business assets

Qualifications

• At least five years of experience as an engineer or architect.
• Experience working in highly regulated environments (e.g., financial institutions).
• Understanding risk management
• Proved experience with Java is a must for this role as we are building the next-gen Employee permission and access service
• Expertise in modern API development technologies, including REST, gRPC and API gateways
• Knowledge of at least one type of SQL and NoSQL database: Oracle, PostgreSQL, Redis, Cassandra, etc.
• Develop and maintain relevant architectural artifacts, including application architectures, data models and other relevant documentation
• Familiarity with key concepts regarding microservices and building a reactive system
• Knowledge of enterprise integration patterns and messaging technologies like Kafka, Pulsar, RabbitMQ
• Experience in building in-house front ends
• Expertise in containerization and orchestration of deploying containerized applications
• Archimate or other Architecture modelling language are considered a plus

• Strong on tech, ability to guide and verify implementations
• You are curious keep up to date with latest trends in IT in general and specifically within ING
• Ability to take ownership and responsibility
• Excellent analytical skills and a clear way of translating abstract concepts into implementable solutions
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to design software solutions that meet their needs and align with ING’s strategic goals
• Experience in producing and presenting solution architecture
• Proven leadership abilities, with a track record of guiding and mentoring project teams to achieve project objectives
• Strong ability to build collaborative partnerships with organizational leaders
