Job Description

The mission of the Department of Energy, Office of Environmental Management’s (DOE-EM) University Programs creates and supports a sustainable career pathway that prepares a workforce of talented students to make immediate and significant contributions to DOE-EM. To achieve this mission, EM University Programs develop strategic partnerships between colleges and universities, investing in student enrichment programs, curriculum development, research efforts, and internship and post-graduate opportunities.

The Internship is a 10-week summer experience where participants complete research projects that are relevant to EM’s ongoing mission. The internships are supported by six U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Laboratories as well as the EM headquarters. Projects assigned to interns are presented at the end of their internship in either poster session or paper depending on the host laboratory.

The Intern will support the following objectives daily:

  • Work with the Business Applications team to design , implement and manage software applications through writing/ debugging code
  • Participate in code reviews and other quality assurance activities
  • Troubleshooting software issues
  • Work in an contribute to an atmosphere of trust and integrity within the Business Applications team

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate must be a US Citizen
  • Enrolled in an undergraduate STEM program and have a current cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Majoring in computer science, software engineering, or similar STEM degree
  • Strong critical thinking, collaboration and communication skills
  • Python, C#, Linux, SQL
