We're looking for a Lead Design Engineer with a strong background in electrical substation engineering who is ready to take broader responsibility for coordinating and guiding engineering within major projects.

Purpose of the Role

As a Lead Design Engineer, you'll be responsible for coordinating engineering activities in electrical substation projects from the early stages through project delivery.

A significant part of the detailed engineering is carried out by external engineering partners. Your role is to guide their work, review engineering documentation and ensure that designs meet technical requirements and progress according to the project schedule.

You'll work closely with Project Managers, engineering partners and other project stakeholders, acting as the technical link between different parties.

The role is particularly well suited for an experienced substation designer who wants to move from hands-on design towards broader technical coordination and responsibility.

Your responsibilities

• Coordinate engineering activities within electrical substation projects

• Guide external engineering partners and subcontracted design teams

• Review engineering documentation and ensure designs meet technical and functional requirements

• Ensure engineering progresses according to project schedules

• Coordinate technical topics between different project stakeholders

• Support preliminary engineering when required

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone with a strong technical understanding of electrical substations and the ability to manage larger technical entities.

You may already have experience in a Lead Design Engineer role, or you could be an experienced designer ready to take the next step towards technical coordination and leadership.

Ideally you have:

• Relevant technical degree, such as a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.

• At least a few years of relevant experience, ideally including 2+ years of electrical substation design experience.

• Ability to understand and manage technical documentation and larger engineering entities.

• A proactive and independent approach to your work.

• Strong communication skills in English (Finnish is a big plus).

It's an advantage if you have

• Experience in preliminary engineering

• Experience coordinating external designers or engineering partners

• Knowledge of AutoCAD, CADMATIC or EPLAN

Location

The role offers considerable flexibility regarding location and can be based at different Eltel offices or remotely.

Projects are primarily located in Southern Finland, and occasional travel to project sites and meetings may be required.
