Are you passionate about helping people in your community? The Shasta County Economic Mobility Branch is seeking customer-focused and detail-oriented Eligibility Specialists to join our team on a full-time basis.
The current vacancies are in the Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency Economic Mobility Branch.
Eligibility Specialist I: $3,614 - $4,613 monthly / $20.85 - $26.61 hourly
Eligibility Specialist II: $4,063 - $5,186 monthly / $23.44 - $29.92 hourly
This position is in the United Public Employees of California – General bargaining unit. Please refer to the applicable bargaining unit labor agreement (Memorandum of Understanding) for potential future salary increases: Shasta County Labor Agreements
The salary range consists of six (6) salary steps, with approximately 5% intervals between each step. The original appointment for new employees begins at the first step of the assigned salary range. New employees are eligible for a merit-based step increase at six months from step A to step B and then annually thereafter from the step B pay period.
The Eligibility Specialist position begins with a paid, twelve-week training course where you will learn basic knowledge of the CalFresh and Health Care Programs, learn and apply rules and regulations, and learn the computer systems and programs to perform your duties as an Eligibility Specialist I.
As an Eligibility Specialist, you will determine the eligibility of applicants and recipients for public assistance programs through interactive interviewing and fact gathering. You’ll maintain current knowledge of program regulations and procedures necessary for multi-program caseload administration, and initiate and process casework through automated systems. You will identify needs and make appropriate referrals for health, social, and/or employment services, and perform related work as required.
The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong emphasis on continuous quality improvement; strong work ethic and ability to prioritize assigned work tasks and follow through in a timely manner; excellent listening and strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent customer service skills and initiative; solution based problem solving skills; experience in maintaining cooperative relations and communications with customers, management, and staff; ability to maintain a high standard of professionalism; proficiency in MS Office suite as well as basic knowledge of software and database programs.
The Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) partners with communities to protect and improve the health and well-being of Shasta County residents. Established in 2006, the HHSA is organized into four branches: Behavioral Health & Social Services, Public Health, Economic Mobility, with a centralized Administration Services. The Economic Mobility Branch helps individuals and families access essential services and achieve greater stability. With convenient locations in Redding, Anderson, Burney, and Enterprise, our team provides initial and ongoing eligibility support for programs such as CalFresh, CalWORKs, General Assistance, and Health Care Programs. We also offer CalWORKs and CalFresh employment preparation and supportive services, working alongside participants to remove barriers and create personalized employment plans. Additionally, our branch streamlines homeless and housing services, helping community members connect with resources to meet their housing needs.

Two (2) years of experience performing clerical duties;
One (1) year of experience determining eligibility for loans, financial assistance, unemployment, or veterans’ benefits, or publicly or privately funded health, counseling, or social services;
Completion of sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter college units.
One (1) year of full-time experience performing duties of an Eligibility Specialist I with Shasta County.
Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
