What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $25.30 - $36.17, however the target hiring range is $25.30 - $31.63. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

  • A guaranteed life-long monthly pension, once vested after 5 years of service

Location

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Hybrid schedules are available with 3 days in office and 2 days working from home. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.

This position will support the St. Francis NRS Site (2307 Curtis St. Denver, CO 80205) and serve as a back-up for the Denver Jails -Denver City Jail(490 W Colfax Ave. Denver, CO 80204) and Denver County Jail (10500 E Smith Rd, Denver, CO 80239).

Eligibility Specialists are considered subject matter experts in eligibility and public assistance programming. Denver Human Services (DHS) is seeking 1 unique individual demonstrating solid performance within these laws, rules, regulations, computer systems and general practices programs and have the desire to make a difference in our communities in the greatest need, throughout our City.

Specifically, as an Eligibility Specialist you will:

  • Provide in-person and same day service to mainly our incarcerated community who are newly applying for benefits and/or recertifying their existing benefits as needed
  • Exhibit agility and fluidity in navigating their interactions with clients to meet the clients where they are
  • Show tact, compassion, and comfort in working with clients from a variety of backgrounds who may be experiencing difficult circumstances
  • Work with a high level of independence, productivity, and quality when processing cases and daily work
  • Provide coverage at other Neighborhood Resource Sites as needed

Additionally, Eligibility Specialists serving in community sites would be expected to:

  • Work with a level of unpredictability from clients in need
  • Show tact, compassion and comfort in working with clients in crisis
  • Rotate through designated locations, to include but not limited to, the Denver Jails and DHS locations
  • Be comfortable with schedule changes that may occur
  • Work with a high level of independence, productivity and quality when processing cases
  • Attend de-escalation and mental health first aid trainings
  • Attend quarterly group supervision and training refreshers
  • Attend training with DSD and DHS

  • Have a passion for working in the community and exhibit a strong desire to work with vulnerable, at-risk populations
  • Be technically savvy and willing to learn new technology or software
  • Have high levels of productivity and quality in processing eligibility cases including cash programs
  • Be comfortable and proficient in troubleshooting cases and navigating through CBMS
  • Be proficient with system interfaces
  • Have a proven record of professionalism and ability to be consistent in delivering on the mission of the Family and Adult Assistance Division
  • Be able to remain calm and composed when dealing with challenging customers/clients
  • Develop and maintain working relationships while encouraging cooperation, pride and a commitment to teamwork
  • Be sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender and other individual differences in the workforce

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of experience determining eligibility for a variety of public assistance programs.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement.
  • License/Certifications: None
