Job Description

The ElevatorTechnicianwill be based at the U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad, Iraq and serve the Operations and Maintenance Support Services (OMSS) contract in support of the U.S. Department of State. This position willbe responsible forthe proper maintenance and repair of the Techniciansystems, and ancillary components to ensure proper certification and licensing, and continuous operation of Embassy elevators and will report to the O&M Manager, Assistant. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.

DUTIES:

  • Responsible formaintaininga safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.

  • Comply withall Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goalsProvide information and materials to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.

  • Locate anddeterminecauses of trouble in brakes, motors, switches, and signal and control systems using test lamps, ammeters, and voltmeters. Work from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications tolocateand diagnose trouble in the equipment.

  • Disassemble defective units and repair or replace parts including locks, gears, cables, and faulty safety devices.

  • Lubricate bearings and other parts to minimize friction.

  • Install or repair transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems, or other transmission equipment.

  • Perform preventative maintenancein accordance withpublished schedules, operating procedures, and equipment warranties. Provide input to upgrade content and frequency of preventative maintenance tasks.

  • Conducts tests of equipment using voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, continuity testers, feeler gauges, frequencycountersand other test equipment considered tools of the trade

  • Performadditionalduties and projects as assigned.

REQUIRED:

  • Minimum Acceptable Experience Level:

  • Three (3) years’ experience in the testing, inspection, repair, and servicing of elevators.

  • Experience with Otis Service Tool.

  • Experience must include familiarity with working sketches, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams and manufacturers’ operations and maintenance manuals.

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of applicable US Electrical Codes and acceptable trade practices.

  • Familiarity with annual maintenance requirements and load testing procedures.

  • Education:A high school diploma or GED and successful completion of all required training courses and field work that led to certification in elevator maintenance.

  • Passport, Licenses and Certifications:

  • As part of pre-contingency requirements, by the time the visa process starts, candidates mustpossessa valid passport with a minimum of 18 monthsremainingtoexpirationdate with 8 blank pages.

  • Valid drivers’ license.

  • Certification in elevator maintenance on the state level or from a major elevator manufacturer.

  • Security Vetting:Must be able to obtain andmaintaina Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenshipis required toobtain a Secret Clearance.

  • Language Skills:Satisfactory English proficiencyto meet job requirements and to adhere andcomply withsafety, health, and security measures.

  • Medical:Successfully complete and pass the medical and dental examinations as required by Amentum and our customer for deployment to Iraq. Mustmaintainphysical and dental requirements for duration of deployment.

DESIRED:

  • Experience with Otis GEN2 MRL Elevators is highly desirable.

  • Previousout of home country experience andpreviouswork experience in harsh environmental conditions are a plus.

  • Experience working with Amentum.

OTHER KNOWLEDGE,SKILLSAND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of principles and processesinvolved in operating andmaintainingelevatorsat an overseas facility.

  • Experience providing excellent customer services.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules.

WORKING AND LIVING CONDITIONS:

This position maybe located ina war zone, in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to extreme and austere desert-like environment. Temperatures can reach 120- 130 degrees Fahrenheit/50-55 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Employees must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere, extreme environment, as well as willing and able to deploy to Iraq for extended periods. Work schedules are a minimum of 6 days per week and 10 hours per day, while some jobs have higher daily and weekly minimums. Employees must be willing and able to perform physical activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time and being capable of running and ‘duck & cover’ during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk.
