Responsibilities

• You will conduct comprehensive routine and non-routine investigations and audits of inspections by special inspectors of elevators, escalators, moving walks, temporary and stationary amusement rides, and related equipment under the Agency’s jurisdiction.
• You will perform inspections of new installations and alterations of elevators and related equipment.
• You will submit written reports of audits and/or inspections of alleged violations and makes recommendations for the issuance of citations.
• You will report audit findings and recommendations and conduct follow-up reviews of deficiencies.
• You will promote the safe assembly and operation of elevators and amusement rides.

Examples of duties

Minimum Qualifications

• A high school diploma and experience conducting investigations or performing other law enforcement duties. A bachelor's degree may substitute for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Three (3) years of experience that is directly related to the area of employment.
• Holds a current NAESA (National Association for Elevator Safety Authorities) QEI Certification.
• Holds a NAARSO (National Association of Amusement Ride Safety Officials) certification or must receive a NAARSO certification within three (3) years of the date of employment.
• Knowledge of applicable laws, rules and regulations applicable to the job such as The SC Elevator Safety Code and Regulations and the SC Amusement Rides Safety Code and Regulations.
• Knowledge of and proficiency in all Microsoft Office Programs.
• Knowledge of the electrical, mechanical and hydraulic functioning of a variety of amusement rides, elevators, dumbwaiters, escalators and moving walks.
• Ability to conduct inspections and investigations, and to analyze facts and reach sound conclusions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
• Ability to read and comprehend blueprints. Ability to present clear, concise and comprehensive oral and written reports.

Other Requirements

• Must have a valid driver's license and 10-year MVR that complies with State and Agency Fleet guidelines.
• Must be able to drive a state or personal vehicle to complete assigned job duties.
• Position requires extensive travel within primary counties of Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, and the Upstate region of South Carolina but statewide travel, as needed, may be required.
• Occasional overnight and weekend travel.
• May be required to work overtime, holidays and weekends.
• Extensive contact with the public.
• Work may be performed in dirty or uncomfortable surroundings.
• Must be able to lift and carry items, books, or tools weighing up to 25 lbs.
• Requires considerable walking and standing for extended hours.
• Must be able to climb and descend ladders, climb and descend amusement rides and devices, access crawl spaces such as elevators pits, climb and descend stairs, squat, kneel, stand, sit, bend, and crawl.
