Extra-Curricular English Learner (EL) Teacher

Position: Extra-Curricular English Learner (EL) Teacher
Reports To: Director of Federal Programs and/or Building Principal
Employment Status: Extra-Curricular/As Needed
FLSA Status: Exempt

Hours: Varies based on student need

Salary: Hourly Daily Rate

Services could take place during school day (in-lieu of planning); after school; and/or before school

KEY DUTIES:

Providing Training to teachers/ Provide Weekly instructional minutes/ Administering ELPA 21 Assessment

The Extra-Curricular English Learner (EL) Teacher provides supplemental instructional support to identified English Learner students outside the regular instructional day. The teacher assists students in developing English language proficiency while supporting academic achievement in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide supplemental instruction to English Learner (EL) students before school, after school, or during approved extended learning opportunities.
  2. Develop and implement lessons aligned with students' English language proficiency levels and academic needs.
  3. Support the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills using research-based instructional strategies.
  4. Collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, and the EL Coordinator to ensure instructional consistency and student success.
  5. Monitor student progress and maintain documentation of attendance, instructional activities, and student performance.
  6. Assist students with academic language needed for success across content areas.
  7. Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and school personnel regarding student progress as appropriate.
  8. Maintain a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment.
  9. Participate in required professional development related to English Learner instruction and program requirements.
  10. Perform other duties related to the English Learner program as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Holds or is eligible for a valid West Virginia Professional Teaching Certificate.
  • English Learner (EL) endorsement preferred or willingness to obtain required training.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional practices for multilingual learners.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and families.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to supervise and instruct students in a classroom setting.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift instructional materials, and perform routine classroom duties.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated by the Director of Federal Programs and/or the Building Principal in accordance with Boone County Schools policies and procedures.
