Job Description

The Teacher provides leadership and instruction that support each student's academic, social, and personal development to the fullest extent of their abilities. The successful candidate will plan and deliver effective instruction aligned with the school's philosophy, curriculum, and educational objectives while creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

Planning and Preparation

• Develop daily lessons aligned with long-range instructional goals and learning objectives.
• Plan well-organized lessons that address students' individual abilities, differences, and educational needs.
• Select and prepare appropriate instructional materials, technology, equipment, and supplies.
• Provide students with varied and purposeful learning experiences.
• Incorporate opportunities for individual and group assessment.
• Encourage student participation in the learning process when appropriate.
• Maintain clear and adequate plans for substitute teachers.

Instruction and Student Development

• Deliver engaging instruction using a variety of methods, techniques, and materials.
• Establish high expectations while providing appropriate support based on each student's abilities and needs.
• Encourage curiosity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and continued learning.
• Provide clear directions, purposeful questions, and instruction paced toward defined objectives.
• Promote sound character, civic responsibility, and respect for democratic principles.
• Support students' social development and appropriate behavior.
• Maintain positive and productive teacher-student relationships.
• Use specialists, community resources, technology, and field experiences to enrich instruction when appropriate.
• Assess student growth and use results to improve instruction.
• Communicate student progress accurately and clearly to families and appropriate school personnel through conferences, report cards, and other communications.
• Collaborate with colleagues to ensure continuity across general and special education programs.

Classroom Management

• Establish a classroom environment that supports learning and student development.
• Maintain a clean, orderly, attractive, and functional classroom.
• Develop and consistently follow effective classroom routines and procedures.
• Arrange the classroom to support student comfort, participation, and learning.
• Maintain appropriate health and safety conditions.
• Foster a respectful, inclusive, and positive classroom community.

Professional Responsibilities

• Demonstrate strong knowledge of assigned subject areas and effective instructional practices.
• Communicate clearly and professionally in both written and spoken English.
• Demonstrate genuine respect, care, and concern for students.

Qualifications

• Appropriate New York State teacher certification for the assigned position.
• Strong instructional, classroom-management, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, colleagues, administrators, and support staff.
• Commitment to supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of all students.
