Position Title: Second Grade Teacher

Reports To: Principal

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School seeks a faith-filled, dedicated, and academically strong Second Grade Teacher who embraces the mission of Catholic education and is committed to forming students spiritually, academically, socially, and morally. The teacher will create a nurturing and engaging classroom environment that promotes academic excellence, fosters a love of learning, and supports the development of each child's God-given gifts.

As a vital member of our Catholic school community, the Second-Grade Teacher will actively integrate Catholic values and teachings into all aspects of instruction and student interactions. Because second grade is a significant sacramental year, the teacher will assist in preparing students for the reception of the Sacrament of First Holy Communion in collaboration with parents, the parish clergy, and the school's religious education program.

Essential Responsibilities

Catholic Identity and Faith Formation

  • Model Catholic values and Christian behaviors in all interactions.
  • Integrate Catholic teachings and Gospel values throughout the curriculum.
  • Lead students in daily prayer and participate in school liturgies, prayer services, and religious celebrations.
  • Support students in their spiritual growth and preparation for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion.
  • Collaborate with parents, clergy, and school leadership regarding sacramental preparation activities.
  • Uphold the mission, philosophy, and policies of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School and the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.

Instruction and Curriculum

  • Plan and implement engaging lessons aligned with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), diocesan standards, and school curriculum requirements.
  • Provide instruction in core subject areas, including Religion, English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and guide instruction.
  • Foster critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Incorporate instructional technology effectively to enhance student learning.

Classroom Management

  • Establish a positive, safe, and orderly classroom environment.
  • Promote student responsibility, respect, and self-discipline.
  • Consistently implement school policies and procedures regarding behavior and student conduct.
  • Encourage strong character development rooted in Catholic virtues.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Maintain effective communication with parents regarding student progress and classroom activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, support staff, and administration to promote student success.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, committee work, professional development activities, and school events.
  • Maintain accurate records, grades, lesson plans, and required documentation.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.
  • Pursue ongoing professional and spiritual development.
  • Support school advancement, enrollment, and community-building activities as requested.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
  • Valid Texas teaching certification or eligibility to obtain certification.
  • Knowledge of elementary instructional best practices and child development.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to support and uphold the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church.

Preferred

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
  • Catechist Certification preferable.
  • Experience teaching in a Catholic school setting.
  • Experience supporting students in sacramental preparation, particularly First Holy Communion.
  • Familiarity with Classical Education and student-centered instructional practices.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the classroom for extended periods.
  • Ability to supervise students in classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, and school events.
  • Ability to lift and carry instructional materials and classroom supplies up to 15 pounds.
