Job Description

CREC's Glastonbury East Hartford Magnet Elementary School seeks a highly qualified, innovative, entrepreneurial instructional leader to serve as Assistant Principal.

Qualifications and Key Attributes
Eligibility for Connecticut Intermediate Administrator Certification (092)
Evidence of significant student achievement results
Experience working and collaborating within a diverse environment
Experience managing adults; goal-setting, providing meaningful feedback and setting professional development plans
Demonstrated ability to motivate and empower staff, recognize success and promote accountability
Demonstrated ability to effectively analyze and utilize data to drive instruction, operations and organizational decision-making
Belief that all students can learn at a high level
Commitment to the vision, mission, values and goals of CREC Schools

The candidate will work closely with and under the direction of the principal to:

Curriculum and Instruction
Provide leadership and direction in the areas of curriculum, instruction and assessment
Oversee the implementation of effective instructional practices in all subject areas
Monitor curriculum development and design to ensure that adequate resources are available to meet instructional needs
Monitor classroom instruction and provide timely feedback to teachers
Analyze assessment data and set goals with faculty for ongoing improvement
Develop and implement long range plans for curriculum, instructional evaluation, and school improvement

Accountability and Professional Development
Interview, select, and orient new faculty
Define expectations for faculty performance with regard to instructional strategies, classroom management, and communication with parents
Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences
Confer with faculty regarding professional growth; work with faculty to develop and accomplish improvement goals
Plan and facilitate professional development opportunities

School Culture
Promote collaboration and encourage innovative and progressive thinking
Encourage frequent communication among faculty, students, parents, and the community
Appropriately recognize and reward excellence and effectively address poor performance
Ensure the effective and quick resolution of conflicts
Collaborate and advise teachers on classroom management methods and interventions

School Operations
Create schedules and manage ordering of classroom supplies/materials
Compile and maintain all reports, records, and other documents required, including accurate and timely reports
Manage the use and maintenance of school facilities
Ensure that school policies are uniformly observed and that student management is appropriate and equitable in accordance with the student handbook
Develop and follow clearly articulated plans for daily operations and implementation of student services, including support services, discipline management, and crisis intervention
