POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Principal serves as a member of the School Leadership Team and supports the Principal in implementing the school's mission, vision, instructional priorities, and operational systems. The Assistant Principal serves as the school's primary leader for daily operations, student discipline, attendance, student services, stakeholder communication, and compliance functions while maintaining instructional leadership responsibilities.
In the absence of the Principal, the Assistant Principal assumes responsibility for all school operations and leadership functions to ensure continuity of instruction, operations, student services, and stakeholder support.
The Assistant Principal is evaluated using the Louisiana Leader Rubric and contributes to the achievement of school-wide goals through effective leadership, operational management, and support of teaching and learning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
DOMAIN I: SCHOOL MISSION, VISION, & STRATEGIC GOAL SETTING
Goal Setting and Monitoring
- Support the Principal in implementing and monitoring school improvement goals and action plans.
- Utilize attendance, discipline, intervention, and academic data to monitor progress toward school goals.
- Assist leadership teams in analyzing student and school performance data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Support implementation and monitoring of intervention and acceleration systems.
- Contribute to school-wide data discussions and continuous improvement efforts.
Communication of Mission, Vision, and Goals
- Communicate school priorities, expectations, and goals to students, families, and staff.
- Reinforce the school's mission and vision through daily leadership actions and decision-making.
- Support implementation of initiatives designed to improve student achievement, school culture, and operational effectiveness.
- Serve as a representative of the school during meetings, events, and stakeholder engagements.
Expectations
- Model and maintain high expectations for student behavior, attendance, academic achievement, and staff professionalism.
- Support implementation of school-wide systems that promote accountability and student success.
- Reinforce school expectations consistently and fairly across all stakeholder groups.
DOMAIN II: INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP
Curriculum and Assessment
- Monitor implementation of curriculum and instructional programs.
- Support teachers in implementing high-quality instructional materials and effective instructional practices.
- Assist with the administration and monitoring of school assessment programs.
- Support data analysis processes used to inform instructional decisions.
Teacher Effectiveness
- Conduct observations, evaluations, and feedback conferences as assigned.
- Provide actionable feedback aligned to the Louisiana Educator Rubric.
- Monitor educator Professional Growth Plans (PGPs), Student Learning Targets (SLTs), and educator development plans.
- Support Teacher Leaders, Instructional Facilitators, and other instructional support personnel.
- Assist in implementing professional learning and coaching initiatives.
Meeting Student Needs
- Serve as the Operational Designee Representative (ODR) for Special Education, SBLC, and student support processes.
- Facilitate School Building Level Committee (SBLC) meetings and maintain required documentation.
- Monitor compliance with IEPs, Section 504 plans, accommodations, and intervention plans.
- Coordinate student support services and collaborate with teachers, families, and support staff to address student needs.
- Ensure intervention and acceleration systems are implemented with fidelity.
Instructional Focus
- Support instructional systems that maximize learning time and student achievement.
- Assist in monitoring the implementation of school improvement priorities.
- Collaborate with instructional leaders to ensure alignment between academic and operational systems.
- Support state and local assessment administration and compliance.
DOMAIN III: CAPACITY BUILDING

School Atmosphere
- Facilitate daily school operations to ensure a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment.
- Coordinate supervision schedules, duty assignments, student activities, and school events.
- Monitor school climate and address concerns that impact student and staff well-being.
- Support implementation of school-wide behavior expectations and positive culture initiatives.
Community Engagement
- Build positive relationships with students, families, community organizations, and stakeholders.
- Support family engagement activities and communication systems.
- Facilitate communication regarding school events, expectations, and student support services.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for operational and student-related concerns.
Discipline
- Serve as the primary administrator responsible for student discipline and behavior management systems.
- Conduct investigations and determine appropriate disciplinary responses in accordance with system policy and state regulations.
- Maintain accurate discipline records and documentation.
- Utilize discipline data to identify trends and improve school-wide behavior systems.
- Support teachers in addressing behavioral concerns and implementing intervention strategies.

- Ensure students receive appropriate academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support.
- Coordinate services and supports that promote student success and equitable access to learning opportunities.
- Monitor implementation of accommodations, interventions, and support plans.

- Assume responsibility for school operations in the absence of the Principal.

- Coordinate extracurricular programs, school events, and campus activities.
- Monitor employee attendance, leave requests, substitute coverage, and operational documentation.
- Approve operational requests and documentation as delegated by the Principal.
- Oversee staff assignments, schedules, travel logistics, and event coordination.
- Support supervision of instructional and non-instructional staff.
Attendance Management
- Coordinate attendance teams and attendance improvement efforts.
- Monitor attendance, chronic absenteeism, and truancy data.

- Coordinate parent communication and attendance-related meetings.
Safety & Emergency Preparedness
- Lead school safety operations and emergency preparedness efforts.
- Coordinate emergency drills, crisis response planning, and safety procedures.
- Collaborate with law enforcement, emergency agencies, and system personnel regarding school safety.
- Maintain compliance with all school safety requirements.
State Testing & Compliance
- Serve as the school-level coordinator for state assessment administration.
- Oversee testing logistics, scheduling, and security procedures.
- Conduct professional development regarding test security, administration procedures, and ethics requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all state and system assessment requirements.
Fiscal and Physical Management
- Assist the Principal in managing facilities, equipment, and operational resources.
- Monitor campus conditions to ensure safe, secure, and effective learning environments.
