Job Description

POSITION: Elementary Assistant (Family-Style)

LOCATION: Isbister Elementary

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals and snacks to the children in their preschool and kindergarten programs as planned and according to family style regulations. Also responsible for kitchen sanitation and cleanliness. Complete mandatory paperwork on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school graduate or equivalent.
  2. Previous food service experience preferred.
  3. Good organizational and communications skills.
  4. Good attendance record.
  5. Must be ServSafe Manager certified within 6 months of hire.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

May include, but not limited to:

  1. Assists in management operations and covers all duties when the Cafeteria Manager is absent.
  2. Prepares meals for Early Childhood and Kindergarten according to the planned menu.
  3. Follow menu specifications as developed by the USDA Food Program, Manager, and Menu Planner. Prepare hot/cold food as scheduled with the posted menus for breakfast, lunch and snacks and maintain proper portion controls per menu specifications.
  4. Manages the operation of kitchen and serving areas for preschool family style meals
  5. Distributes family style meals to classrooms.
  6. Assists in food preparation according to food safety standards.
  7. Assists with serving food as described in the production records.
  8. Assists with cleaning and sanitizing of kitchen and equipment.
  9. Clean and sanitize all serving platters, utensils, trays, and cooking equipment used in preparation and service of Pre-K and kindergarten Family Style Meals.
  10. Bending, lifting, and overhead work required.
  11. Assists with ordering, inventory, and communicating kitchen needs.
  12. Assist with maintaining temperature logs, production records and daily, weekly, monthly reports, as assigned.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned by the Cafeteria Manager or Director of Food Service to support meal service for 1st-5th grade service.

RATE OF PAY: Starting at $16.74 per hour

START DATE: As soon as possible

HOURS: Up to 35 hours per week

EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs such as boxes of books or food. The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Upon recommendation for employment, Section 1230g, as amended, of the Revised School Code requires all school employees to be electronically finger printed for the purpose of undergoing a criminal history background check. The fingerprinting is conducted by a third party and is at the expense of the applicant. Cost for fingerprinting is approximately $70.00.

Plymouth-Canton Community Schools operates 15 elementary schools, five middle schools, three high schools & an alternative high school program. District maps show geographic attendance areas for elementary & middle school. Students are randomly assigned to our three high schools.

To additionally support our community, the district provides extensive preschool programming as well as before & after-school child care & summer care programs for elementary & middle school students. Over 3,000 full-time & part-time employees work to provide our students with the educational opportunities they need to become productive citizens in a global community.

Parent involvement is a key factor in the success of our students & our schools. District policy 2112 summarizes the importance of two-way communication between home & school & describes the responsibilities of the school & the parents in this process. The district plan titled “Parent Involvement in the School Program” will be printed each year in August.

Each school welcomes parents to Open House in the fall, parent-teacher conferences, evening programs related to curriculum & school activities. Parents also participate on many school committees, volunteer in classrooms, organize fundraisers & help us to provide their students with an outstanding education.

All P-CCS teachers are teaching in areas in which they are certified by the State of Michigan. The federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) law requires an even higher level of certification. At the secondary level, these new standards require teachers to possess at least a bachelor’s degree & full state certification & teach only in areas in which they have a major or equivalent graduate degree or a minor & have passed the state exam in that subject.

All P-CCS elementary teachers meet the federal requirements for highly qualified teachers. Parents have a right to know the qualifications of the teachers of their children & may contact their school to get this information.
