Performs invasive diagnostic and interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, and radiology procedures. Responsible for the operation and quality assurance of film/image processing, patient monitoring and x-ray equipment. Participates in the daily activities of the lab by assisting with scrub, float, monitor, and imaging technology roles.
The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:
Provides and ensures quality care for patients as indicated by their clinical condition
Assesses the patient, reviews chart for orders and lab results
Prepares patients for procedure
Performs in the scrub role setting up sterile field
Assists with pacemaker, AICD, and intraventricular device implants
Assists with electrophysiology studies and ablations (atrial and ventricular) including the use of various electrophysiological recording, mapping and navigation systems, cardiac stimulators and ablation equipment (RF and Cryo)
Performs in the monitor role by observing and documenting hemodynamic, EKG, and pressure waveforms
Ensures that time-outs occur prior to beginning procedures
Provides a safe environment to include but not limited to radiation exposure, contrast administration, and infection control guidelines/Universal Precautions for the EP Lab, and the Health System
Participates in the ongoing cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology labs quality control program, preventive maintenance, and performance improvement programs
Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development of the younger to older adult and understands the range of treatment based on the patient’s developmental needs

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
Associate’s degree required
ACLS, BCLS required
Certification in ARRT and/or RCIS or RCES required
Registry eligible may apply and complete RCIS or RCES within 1 year of employment
Experience with electrophysiology, invasive diagnostic radiology, or interventional cardiology preferred
Ability to assess patient needs correctly and take appropriate action
Thorough knowledge of medications, emergency procedures and medical equipment
Ability to work with personnel of varied training/backgrounds
Good oral and written communication skills
Maintains composure during high stress situations
Knowledge of and ability to operate x-ray and patient monitoring equipment
Flexibility with work schedule
Good hearing ability
Ability to speak clearly
Visual acuity
Motor coordination and manual dexterity
Good physical and mental stamina to perform duties and responsibilities
Work is medium to heavy
Work requires moving of equipment and patients
Exposure to ionizing radiation
Ability to lift 100 lbs with frequent lift/carry objects up to 50 lbs
Wears lead lined apron
Stands for extended periods of time
May be subject to occupational exposure including skin, eye, mucous membrane or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material during patient contact
Moderate to high amount of stress from heavy patient scheduling, interaction with physicians and type of patient not limited to unstable patient conditions
