Our Team:

Our Above Water Systems team designs and engineers commercial and naval ships – as well as providing in-service support capabilities. We’re proud to bolster Australia’s sovereign capability through operational support to our Navy. The role:

Join our dedicated team as an Electronics Technician in a full-time, permanent role based at Garden Island. This position offers a unique opportunity to apply your technical expertise and innovative mindset to maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance advanced electronic systems critical to naval operations. Duties will include:

  • Performing comprehensive maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of vessel electronic systems to ensure optimal operational performance.
  • Supervise and mentor junior technicians and contractors during system installation, commissioning, and testing activities.
  • Providing technical leadership and guidance to multidisciplinary teams, helping resolve complex issues throughout project execution.
  • Generating clear, detailed technical documentation—including maintenance reports, test procedures, and troubleshooting guides—for electronic systems.
  • Oversee minor projects from planning to completion, managing technical direction, resource estimation, scheduling, and progress reporting.
  • Conducting system alignment checks and defect investigations during sea acceptance trials to verify reliable performance under operational conditions.
  • Foster a customer-focused environment, prioritizing timely and efficient service to internal stakeholders and external clients.
  • Collaborating closely with Technical Services and Project Control teams, supporting seamless project workflows and timely issue resolution.
  • Assisting other teams as needed, adhering to requests and direction from the Technical Services Manager.

How about you?

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • A certification or diploma in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and effectively within a team environment.
  • A strong capacity to learn quickly and apply new information and concepts.
  • A positive and adaptable attitude, with a willingness to embrace change and grow through new experiences.
  • An Advanced Diploma in Electrical or Electronics Engineering will be highly regarded.
  • Extensive relevant training, including specialist equipment instruction, together with hands-on experience in the fault diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of electronic equipment and systems in a related technical environment, will be highly regarded.
