ASRC Federal Field Services, a Subsidiary of ASRC Federal Holding Company, is currently seeking a Systems Specialist at the Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center, located on Plum Island, NY. (1.5 nautical miles off North Fork of Long Island & 6 nautical miles off coast of Old Saybrook, CT). Marine transportation furnished by Government provided ferry.

Key Role:
• Provide support for general IT, Physical Security Systems, Telecommunications and supporting infrastructure.
• Assist in the planning, and coordination of all activities related to LMR Communications, CCTV, access control, and related systems.
• To include user support, system administration, maintenance and installation. Maintain and administer computer networks and related environments and implement network security measures.
• Support programs and processes and procedures in alignment with the ISO 9001 registration, Federal Information security Act (FISMA), NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF) and applicable agency specific policies and directives.
• Support system authorizations and information security programs to ensure compliance with Governmental requirements and regulations.
• Provide technical expertise to include training and guidance for the installation, maintenance and repair of Avaya phone system, LMR and related equipment.
• Stay abreast of new technology and products.
• Make recommendations for changes and/or upgrades to current systems.
• Provide Assistant System Administration (ASA) duties for all communication systems.
• Installing and maintaining cable infrastructure including but not limited to, Fiber Optic cable, Fiber Optic Splicing, Fiber Optic testing as well as CAT spec network cabling.
• Ability to read detailed schematics for the reason of performing mark outs as planned.
• Provide network desktop support, design, test and/or modify computer programs related to communication systems and associated infrastructure.
• Work within the containment laboratory requires decontamination showers.
• Working conditions may include confined space, exposure to inclement weather and temperature extremes.
• Ability to obtain and maintain certification to operate aerial work platform* (*Manlift) and bucket trucks as required.
• Oversee design projects, plan & implement system installations, modifications.
• Perform testing analysis of communication systems and associated infrastructure.
• Perform repair activities on communication systems and associated infrastructure.

Basic Qualifications:
• BS degree or equivalent in computer technology or related field desired.
• Minimum 5-7 years of professional experience in infrastructure associated with communication systems such as Cat5/Cat6 termination, installation, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. to work independently or as a team with minimal supervision.
• This is a position essential to the facility operation. Work schedule is subject to rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
• This position requires the successful applicant to obtain and maintain the required security clearance or other authorization within the necessary timeframe required by applicable contract. Possess a valid driver license and must undergo required physical examination and vaccinations.
Additional Qualifications:
• iPhone, Audio video and Mobil radio experience a plus.

Physical Requirements:
• Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your whole body.
• Utilization of appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) such as safety shoes, hard hats, hearing, and eye protection is required. Ability to climb ladders, reach overhead and lift to 50lbs. Industrial work environment that may include loud noise, heat stress, work indoors and outdoors.
• Ability to carry out housekeeping duties with minimal direction, following prescribed methods & directives.
• Assignments may require entry into biocontainment facilities, utility plants, a variety of storage buildings and constructions sites. Work within the containment laboratory requires decontamination showers.
• You must be physically able to move freely in environments that are restricted in space, unsteady or otherwise not easily accessible. Ability to climb ladders, and lift to 50 lbs.
• As a condition for employment, all personnel entering the BSL-3 biocontainment facilities at Plum Island shall not be in contact with specific susceptible animals and their premises off Plum Island for a period of five (5) days after leaving biocontainment. Currently, restricted species are cattle, sheep, goats, deer, other ruminants, and swine. Contact with horses, birds (agricultural and pet birds) and rabbits are normally permitted, but restrictions may be placed on staff working with or near-contagious agents affecting these species. Restricted livestock or other restricted animals may not be housed on the premises where the employee lives and where the quarantine cannot be enforced.
