Job Description

Build the Future of Autonomous Systems

SYOS designs and manufactures advanced uncrewed systems across air, land, sea, and subsurface domains. We combine intelligent engineering, AI-driven autonomy, and innovative design to create next-generation vehicles operating in some of the world's most challenging environments.

About the Role

We’re looking for a talented Electronics Engineer to join our expanding Electronics Components team in the UK. This is a hands-on electronic hardware design role focused on developing the electronic systems that power our autonomous vehicles. You’ll design and develop multi-layer printed circuit boards (PCBs), digital circuits and hardware interfaces used in areas such as camera modules, vision systems, power supplies and automation.

Working across schematic capture, PCB layout, high-speed digital design, prototyping and hardware debugging, you’ll help turn complex engineering requirements into reliable, production-ready electronic solutions. You’ll collaborate closely with Software, Design and Manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration and high-quality outcomes.

The role is fully remote within the UK, offering the opportunity to contribute to innovative autonomous technology while working from your chosen UK-based location.

Please note: Applicants must already have the legal right to work in the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Schematic Capture and PCB Design: Develop electronic schematics and design multi-layer PCB layouts for camera modules, vision systems and other electronic hardware.
  • High-Speed Digital Design: Design circuits incorporating high-speed differential signalling, including MIPI CSI-2 and LVDS, with a focus on signal integrity and reliable sensor interfaces.
  • Mixed-Signal Electronics: Integrate digital control logic and analogue signal conditioning to support optimal electronic system performance.
  • FPGA and Microcontroller Integration: Support digital control, image preprocessing and hardware integration using FPGAs and embedded microcontrollers.
  • Communication Interfaces: Design and integrate hardware interfaces such as USB, Ethernet, I2C, SPI and UART for reliable data transmission and system communication.
  • Prototyping, Testing and Debugging: Build and test hardware prototypes, perform fault-finding and signal integrity testing, and resolve issues involving EMI/EMC, thermal management and circuit performance.
  • Documentation and Collaboration: Work with Software, Design and Manufacturing teams to develop technical documentation, test plans, assembly procedures and design-for-manufacture guidelines.

What We’re Looking For

  • A degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least three years of professional experience in electronic hardware design and development.
  • Strong proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout software, such as Altium Designer, KiCad, Fusion or Eagle.
  • Demonstrable experience designing multi-layer PCBs, ideally six layers or more, including controlled-impedance routing.
  • A strong understanding of high-speed digital design, signal integrity, differential pairs, impedance matching and PCB layout techniques for interfaces operating at 100 MHz and above.
  • A solid foundation in digital electronics, including digital logic design, timing analysis and digital signal processing.
  • Hands-on experience implementing hardware communication interfaces such as MIPI CSI-2, USB, Ethernet, I2C, SPI or UART.
  • Practical experience assembling electronic prototypes, using oscilloscopes and logic analysers, and bringing new hardware designs into operation.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to investigate complex hardware issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Excellent technical documentation and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering disciplines.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with VHDL or Verilog for image processing or high-speed I/O.
  • Experience developing microcontroller firmware using C, C++ or Python to control electronic or camera hardware.
  • Familiarity with ADCs, DACs, power supply design and noise reduction techniques.
  • Experience with MIPI CSI-2, LVDS or other high-speed camera interfaces.
  • Understanding of DFM/DFA principles, production-ready component selection and design cost optimisation.
  • Experience developing automated test fixtures and hardware validation procedures.

To be eligible for this role, you must be able to meet the Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). This includes confirming your identity, legal right to work in the UK, recent employment history, and criminal record (unspent convictions only).

Why Join SYOS?
