About the role

The Electricity Supply Industry (ESI) Trainer is responsible for delivering high-quality training, assessment, and competency development programs to apprentices, overseas/ interstate lineworkers, experienced lineworkers, and operational personnel. This includes delivering structured training, gap training, and refresher courses aligned with Overhead Distribution (UET30621) for the Electrical Supply Industry at various UGL locations throughout Western Australia, Victoria, NSW and Queensland.

The role ensures lineworkers are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties safely and efficiently in accordance with legislative and network requirements. This includes training in glove and barrier methods, high-voltage (HV) operating procedures, and UGL One HSE Culture Framework, and Critical Risk Controls. The trainer will also support compliance with industry frameworks by conducting assessments, providing mentorship, and identifying skill gaps to enhance workforce capability across the sector.

By fostering a strong safety culture and technical competency, the ESI Trainer plays a critical role in maintaining high standards of operational excellence within the electricity supply industry.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality training and assessment in UET30621 Overhead Distribution, including refresher units, electrical principles, Glove and Barrier, as well as HV operating procedures.

  • Ensure compliance with all industry standards and regulations, particularly safety protocols.

  • Travel across Western Australia and at time east coast of Australia to deliver training sessions on-premises and on-job.

  • Provide ongoing support, coaching and mentoring to apprentices, trainees and lineworkers to help them achieve their learning goals and competencies.

  • Contribute to the creation and updating of training courses, ensuring they meet industry standards and the evolving needs of the electricity supply sector.

  • Establish a safe system of work for Utilities O&M underpinned by robust risk management and championing UGL One HSE Culture Framework.

  • Maintain training material in accordance to the RTO and ASQA requirements.

  • Manage employee training needs working with the Registered Training Office to book training and assist in maintaining a training register.

About You

  • Demonstrated experience as a trainer of ESI (UET30621) Overhead Distribution programs, with the ability to deliver industry-relevant skills that meet regulatory and safety standards.

  • Where applicable current state Electrical Supply Industry skills, lineworker registration/ license.

  • Experience in implementing the latest training and assessment strategies to meet student and course requirements.

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment - TAE 40122 or equivalent predecessor or successor qualifications.

  • Ability to function autonomously, work independently and/or coordinate work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Develop, promote and implement a One HSE Culture Framework and programs for the business / program.

  • Proficient skills in computers: MS Word, Excel, Access, email

  • Proficient in maintaining ASQA training records

  • Strong communication skills (oral & written) including strong negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally.
