Electrician – Heat Trace Isolation / CUI Support

Position Summary

MISTRAS Group is seeking a qualified Electrician – Heat Trace Isolation / CUI Support to support Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) inspection and refurbishment activities on Alaska's North Slope.

The primary responsibility of this position is to safely perform electrical energy isolation, de-energization, verification, and restoration of electric heat tracing systems to allow CUI crews to safely perform inspection, maintenance, and repair activities.

When electrical isolation activities are not required, the Electrician will support Electronics Technicians and may assist with CUI refurbishment, NDT inspections, and other maintenance activities as directed.

The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, effective communication, and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team in a remote industrial operating environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform electrical energy isolation and restoration of heat tracing systems in accordance with client procedures and electrical safety requirements.
• Verify zero-energy states and ensure all isolation activities are properly documented.
• Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, Inspection, and CUI personnel to support scheduled work activities.
• Read and interpret electrical drawings, heat trace schematics, single-line diagrams, and equipment documentation.
• Troubleshoot electrical heat tracing systems and identify deficiencies that may impact CUI work.
• Support planning and scheduling activities to ensure timely access for CUI inspections and repairs.
• Assist with commissioning and functional verification of heat trace systems following restoration.
• Maintain accurate records of electrical isolations, testing, repairs, and restoration activities.
• Follow site electrical safety standards, lockout/tagout requirements, company policies, and client procedures.
• Support Electronics Technicians with instrumentation and electrical maintenance activities as needed.
• Assist with insulation removal, refurbishment, and reinstallation when electrical support is not required.
• Support NDT technicians with inspection activities as directed by supervision.
• Participate in daily safety meetings, job hazard analyses, JSAs, and work planning discussions.
• Maintain tools, electrical test equipment, and work areas in a safe and serviceable condition.
• Respond to emergent work assignments as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of the CUI program.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• State Journeyman Electrician License or equivalent electrical certification.
• Minimum of 3 years of industrial electrical experience.
• Experience working with electric heat tracing systems.
• Working knowledge of lockout/tagout and electrical energy isolation procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices.
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements.
• Ability to obtain all required client and site-specific training and certifications.
• Ability to work a rotational schedule on Alaska's North Slope.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working at Alaska North Slope oil and gas facilities.
• Experience supporting CUI, maintenance, turnaround, or industrial inspection projects.
• Electronics Technician experience.
• NDT certifications such as UT, MT, PT, or VT, or previous inspection experience.
• Experience with ConocoPhillips electrical work practices and permit systems.
• Knowledge of corrosion mechanisms associated with insulated piping systems.
• OSHA 10, OSHA 30, or equivalent safety training.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work safely in Arctic and industrial outdoor environments.
• Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and scaffolding.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces when authorized and properly qualified.
• Ability to wear required PPE, including fall protection and electrical PPE.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and perform physical work for extended periods.
• Ability to safely perform job duties in a demanding remote industrial environment.
