STARTING PAY:

$30.00/hr.

Under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager, this position coordinates, oversees, and performs routine maintenance and construction work on electrical equipment. Duties include repairing, replacing or relocating equipment in accordance with National Electrical Code and Safety Requirements; supervising and assisting Electrician I’s with installations, trouble shooting, and maintenance of electrical equipment; working closely with Building Maintenance personnel; and keeping the Facilities Manager informed of all work assignments, equipment needs, and personnel issues.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly supervises and assists subordinate electricians.
  • Processes review of work completed, complaints, and any other needed paperwork to facilitate the day’s activities.
  • Oversees predictive and preventive electrical maintenance.
  • Repairs and trouble shoots calls as they come in.
  • Responds to electrical problems and emergencies in other City departments.
  • Maintains, repairs, and replaces, as needed, all lighting in or on City property.
  • Performs service work on motors and controls from 110 volt to 480 volt.
  • Installs transformers and all related equipment.
  • Investigates and trouble shoots discrepancies as they arise.
  • Monitors for unsafe conditions or improper equipment use and takes the necessary steps to rectify the situation.
  • Reads wiring diagrams and schematics to install and replace equipment, as needed.
  • Maintains good relations with all City departments and employees as well as supply houses and other outside contacts, always maintaining a positive team attitude.
  • Performs subordinate performance evaluations.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MIN IMUM RE QUIRE ME NT S

Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of five years of experience in commercial/industrial construction and electrical maintenance, including motor control theory and five years supervisory experience. Must be licensed by the State of Texas as a Master Electrician. Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License, required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge and understanding of safety equipment required for safe performance of duties, including gloves, goggles, hardhats, breathing devices, etc.
  • Ability to operate Volt-amp meter, Electrical hand tools, Ram set, Capacitor tester, Megger, Telephone hand set, Volt-amp recording equipment
  • Ability to operate variety of bucket trucks, Aerial trucks, Forklifts and Ditching equipment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of drawings, schematics, and electrical standards.
  • Knowledge of Electrical Code Requirements.
  • Ability to trouble shoot control circuits, motors, VFD’s, lights, and other equipment not functioning properly.
  • Has working knowledge on control circuits, motor starters, heating and air conditioning controls, etc.
  • Ability to operate computers for data entry and word processing.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skill.
  • Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.

Amarillo is the 14th-largest city in the state of Texas, the largest in the Texas Panhandle, and the seat of Potter County. A portion of the city extends into Randall County. The population was 173,627 at the 2000 census. The Amarillo metropolitan area has an estimated population of 236,113 in four counties. In July 2009, the population was estimated at 189,389.

The role of the commission is to pass ordinances and resolutions, adopt regulations, and appoint city officials, including the city manager. While the mayor serves as a presiding officer of the commission, the city manager is the administrative head of the municipal government, and is responsible for the administration of all departments. The city commission holds its regular meetings on Tuesday of each week.
