Official Title: Electrician, HVAC Technician - Senior Maintenance Technician II-Suffolk County

Pay Grade: Grade 16S

Starting Pay: $68,037.06 Pay Range Maximum: $100,275.76/yr.

Salary Notes: This position is designated as a Union position. All new hires must start at the entry level rate for this role per the collective bargaining agreement/MOA with OPEIU, Local 6. Pay may advance within the salary band according to the CBA/MOU.

Notes:

  • Shift: Monday-Friday, 6:00am-2pm.
  • Licensed in either HVAC, or Electrician is required.
  • This position is considered essential personnel in certain emergencies and may be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours, including staying late or coming in early.

Installs, repairs, alters, maintains and tests existing heating, venting and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment/systems or electrical systems. Maintains mechanical equipment and building infrastructure to ensure safety and uninterrupted facility operations. Uses central building insight system to track facility needs and ensure safe operations.

Supervision Received: Works under the direction of a Facilities Systems Supervisor.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

FOR ELECTRICIAN
• Tests, repairs, installs and/or maintains various types of electrical systems and equipment by operating the appropriate equipment and tools to ensure proper maintenance and functioning of necessary equipment.
• Troubleshoots electrical and related equipment using necessary electrical equipment and by reading schematics, diagrams and outlines to identify and correct operational problems.
• Provides preventative maintenance to equipment, machinery, and tools.
• Maintain an adequate inventory of equipment and materials.
• Schedules and escorts contractors.
• Cooperates with Facilities system personnel on electrical systems and power consumption.
• Performs other duties as required.
FOR HVAC
• Installs, repairs, alters and maintains existing heating, venting and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment and systems.
• Troubleshoots HVAC equipment and systems.
• Run standard tests to determine whether finished work meets specifications.
• Inspect facility to determine the need for maintenance and repair to HVAC equipment.
• Establish priorities and make recommendations concerning work activities.
• Maintains courthouse building and grounds.
• Provides preventative maintenance to equipment, machinery and tools.
• Repairs, installs and tests multiple systems and equipment.
• Orders motors, parts and equipment.
• Schedules and escorts contractors.
• Works with Engineering on efficiency and power consumption.
• Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency
• Four (4) years of related work experience, which may include apprenticeship working toward a state license.
FOR ELECTRICIAN:
Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts journeyman electrician’s license issued by the Board of State Examiners of Electricians
FOR HVAC:
• Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts refrigeration license
• Possession of an EPA 608/CFC certification

  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered for meeting minimum qualifications

Working Conditions: Work is frequently performed in indoor, outdoor, warehouses or shops/facilities environments.

Work requires some exposure to extreme cold (below 32 degrees), moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals or substances and loud noises 85+ decibels such as heavy trucks, construction.

Physical Demands: This position requires medium work:

Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
