Job Description

Electrician Helper – Hands-On Training, Real Career Path

Austin, TX | Full-Time | On-Site

Every great electrician started somewhere. This is where you start — learning the trade hands-on, next to the people who already know it cold. Previous solar installation experience is a big plus.

Freedom Power was born when Freedom Solar and Freedom HVAC joined forces to become Texas's complete whole-house energy company. We don't just install solar panels. We hand homeowners the keys to something bigger: control over their energy, their bills, and their future. We call it Energy Empowerment, and it's not a tagline — it's the reason we show up every day.

As an Electrician Helper, you'll work side by side with a Licensed Electrician, learning the real mechanics of the trade — wiring, circuit breakers, lighting fixtures, racking, and modules — while keeping the job site safe, organized, and moving. Show up ready to learn, work hard, and follow instructions, and you'll walk away with real skills and a real shot at becoming licensed yourself.

What You'll Do

  • Observe and assist a Licensed Wireman, Journeyman, or Master Electrician, following their written or verbal instructions on every project.
  • Follow all relevant safety codes and guidelines while assisting with the installation and servicing of electrical equipment.
  • Wear appropriate protective clothing and equipment, and always follow job-specific safety protocols.
  • Keep tools, parts, and materials organized, and make sure everything the electrician needs is on-site and ready.
  • Transport tools and materials to the electrician as needed throughout the job.
  • Help prepare and clean the work site before every project begins.
  • Clean and tidy the work area after every project — materials, dust, and debris, all handled.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the Electrician.

What You Bring

  • Apprentice Electrician License (required)
  • OSHA 10 certification (required)
  • NABCEP Installer certificate or working knowledge is a plus, but not required
  • Previous solar installation experience strongly preferred
  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record

The Physical Side

  • Comfortable working in various positions — stooping, standing, bending, sitting, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods
  • Able to lift 50 lbs frequently throughout the workday
  • Comfortable with heights and working in hot and cool climates

What's In It For You

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • 100% Company-Sponsored Short-Term Disability
  • 401(k) Employer Matching
  • Weekly Pay Dates
  • 3 Weeks PTO + 3 Sick Days
  • 12 Paid Holidays + 1 Floating Holiday
  • Hands-on training and a real path toward becoming a licensed electrician
  • Upward mobility opportunities

One More Thing

One of our favorite core values is Give a Damn — and that's exactly what we're looking for. We hire for grit, work ethic, and character as much as resumes — and we're always excited to discover skills we didn't know we needed.

Freedom Power is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.

About Freedom Solar Power

Freedom Solar Power is the leader in turnkey solar installations, providing high quality, cost-effective, reliable solar solutions for residential and commercial markets. Based in Austin since 2007, Freedom Solar has installed more than 281 megawatts of solar panels for tens of thousands of homeowners and hundreds of top companies such as Ford, Toyota, Whole Foods, Office Depot, Chevrolet, the University of Texas, and more.

Every idea starts with a problem. Ours was simple: solar was too complicated.

In 2007, the solar market was clouded by installers with aggressive sales tactics who were taking customers’ money but not with their best interests in mind. A solar installation requires 7+ steps, and most companies only cover 1 or 2, leaving the rest to the homeowner to figure out.

Our founders experienced this firsthand, as Bret was a homeowner who wanted solar for his home but couldn’t get any companies to return his call, and Adrian was a solar craftsman who was getting on roofs to fix solar installs left and right. These two idealists wondered, how could those companies who sell such a pure, important product for our future, do business in such a careless way? They partnered to build a truly full-service solar team that would put the customer in control, because ultimately, we give a damn! We hold ourselves accountable to your outcomes through a 25-year product, performance, and service warranty.

We staff in-house experts across sales, design, permitting, installation, and customer care. We hire people who are humble and hungry to leave the world a better place. We only install carefully curated high-quality solar technology, and we do so with an attention to detail, so you and your families can depend on the power.
