Job Description

Irving Shipbuilding is recruiting for Electrical, Apprentice - HSL, Local 1 in Halifax, NS.

• Read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
  
• Work in a construction, maintenance/repair, new fabrication environment
  
• Perform Cable pull.
  
• Perform Cable splicing / terminations.
  
• Installing electrical equipment / components.
  
• Install cable raceways / cable tray or conduit.
  
• Stud shooting for local cable runs.
  
• Ensuring work area is clean upon completion of work.
  
• Lift, move, or position equipment at work sites
  
• Work in a shipbuilding and repair, industrial environment
  
• Candidates will be required to wear respiratory protective equipment where applicable and must comply with all safety regulations regarding the proper fit and use of this personal protective equipment
  
• Candidates will be required to work at heights from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms; stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in confined spaces, inclement weather and support extended hours and overtime as business needs dictate.
• Work may be performed indoors and outdoors. You will frequently handle, lift, carry, and set up parts and equipment that weigh up to fifty (50lbs) pounds. Occasionally, you may be required to lift and carry items that weigh over fifty (50lbs) pounds

• Completion of secondary school or high school; and
  
• Completion of vocational, technical and/or equivalent training or 5 + years of related experience
  
• Successful applicants shall be expected to demonstrate that they have suitable shipyard electrical skills by passing electrical skills assessments by our training department.
  
• Electrical trade certification or equivalent is preferred
  
• A pre-employment physical is required
