Embark on a fulfilling career at BNSF Railway, where joining our Engineering Department means contributing to the backbone of our nation's rail infrastructure. TheAllouez Taconite Electrician position ensures the reliable operation and safety of high and low-voltage electrical systems, essential for maintaining uninterrupted railway services.

This is a full-time position based on the current union collective bargaining agreement. Monday through Friday, ten-hour shifts with overtime after ten hours. Subject to alternating shifts or starting times, nights, on-call, weekends, overtime, holidays. 

Travel is required during training and can be frequent and extensive over a large geographic area.

Training for this position is company-paid on-the-job training to include preparation, equipment and testing expenses to obtain.

Key responsibilities may include:

Maintaining high-voltage distribution systems, motor starters and associated equipment (up to 13KV) both overhead and underground.

Installing and maintaining low-voltage systems (up to 110v AC/ 48v DC) for commercial and industrial functions to include installation of conduit, wire, lighting systems, electrical devices, electrical services both underground and overhead, and other associated electrical industry work. 

Installing and maintaining Programmable Logic Controller systems (Allen-Bradley SLC and PLC-5 series).

Performing installation, calibration, and repairs on belt scale systems (Milltronics BW 500 and Universal Belt Scale).

Daily work is conducted in a safety sensitive environment where the working conditions can include diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet), walking and performing work on uneven surfaces, working around loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Able to work now and in the future without BNSF’s assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status).
  • I am at least 18 years of age or will be by the anticipated start date listed in the job description.                
  • Possess a valid state-issued driver’s license.            
  • Ability to report for duty at the designated work location. 
  • Able to work safely in the above working conditions. 
  • Able to work the above shift/hours. 
  • Able to read, write and communicate (speak, hear and understand) English.         
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.  
  • Able to visually distinguish among red, blue, green, yellow, and lunar (clear light) colors.                  
  • Able to use hands to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning, and pulling. 
  • Ability to differentiate between verbal and non-verbal sounds (signals, alarms, etc.) and discriminate (comprehend) verbal communication in the work environment. 
  • Able to perform work at various heights above the ground and over water including working in a suspended tower and walking on a bridge to perform routine inspection and maintenance.  
  • Able to climb ladders and on/off equipment Able bend, lift, work, walk, stand, and sit in confined spaces for extended periods of time.  
  • Able to use hand and power tools. 
  • Basic computer skills and ability to utilize email programs (Microsoft Outlook). 

Union membershipis with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and union dues are required per union agreement.

Seniority district transfers are handled per union agreement, are seniority based and require Superintendent of department approval.
