In this role, you will be responsible for installing and maintaining electrical equipment to ensure it operates at peak performance. You will report to the Maintenance Engineer and must guarantee the safe and efficient operation of machinery by setting and adjusting devices within specified tolerances. All work performed on the premises must comply with SANS Code 10142-1:2003 (wiring of premises) and any stricter internal standards related to engineering, quality, safety health & environment. Additionally, you will be tasked with faultfinding and attending to breakdowns, completing necessary administrative tasks for AMM, SHE, and CDM, and actively participating in new project installations

A day in the life of an Electrician:

  • Carry out the planned maintenance required on plant.
  • Attend to electrical faults and breakdowns in the factory.
  • Be proactive in preventing breakdowns on his/her patrols and show initiative to continuously improve equipment performance.
  • Install, service, repair and maintain existing and new equipment.
  • Follow up and recommend actions to overcome and improve problems encountered.
  • Faultfinding on PLC’s.
  • Programming and faultfinding on VSD’’s.
  • Programming and faultfinding on defined instrumentation and calibration.
  • Faultfinding on electrical machines on running processes.
  • Ensure machine availability for production targets to be met.
  • Undertakes to work shift, standby and overtime as per company requirements.
  • Electrical panels must be closed and locked at all times and kept in a neat and clean condition.
  • Lockout & permit procedure to be used at all times when any person could be exposed to danger by the inadvertent starting of machinery.
  • Ensure any dangerous conditions be made safe immediately.
  • To correct errors on drawings and update drawings.
  • Interact with production, Contractors and suppliers.

What will make you successful?

  • Minimum Trade test and N3 Certificate. Certificate of Registration as an Installation Electrician.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in electrical field.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, contractors and suppliers.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency whilst never compromising safety or product quality.
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure
