As a core member of the Property Development Division, the Electrician role at Ocean State Job Lot (“OSJL” and “Company”) is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems across OSJL’s diverse portfolio of retail stores and commercial properties. This role ensures that all facilities remain safe, operational, and compliant with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable law and regulation. This role also acts as the technical lead on renovation projects, collaborating with the OSJL’s Construction department to execute large-scale upgrades and new facility rollouts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install electrical wiring and instrumentation systems to support stores, construction, and other owned properties as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and correct electrical problems in electrical equipment and lighting systems.
  • Work with outside electrical contractors to ensure compliance and inspect work quality.
  • Work with outside vendors to specify new equipment requirements.
  • Perform installation, removal and repair of a wide range of electrical equipment such as power circuits, lighting systems switchgear, transformers, emergency management systems, and communication equipment.
  • Diagnose equipment failures and make necessary repairs while minimizing downtime.
  • Direct work and instruct other OSJL electricians, third party electricians, and apprentice electricians as required.
  • Maintain and install Energy Management Systems.
  • Complete routine paperwork as needed, following lockout/tagout safety procedures and complying with all safety regulations.
  • Attend safety meetings and adhere to all Company safety guidelines.
  • Must be available for emergency calls, including on nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications:

  • Current Class A Rhode Island Electrical License is required.
  • Rhode Island Fire Alarm Installer Class BF or Telecommunications/Alarm license is preferred.
  • 10 or more years of experience in the electrical field is required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Must possess skills to use all necessary tools, both manual and power.
  • Must be able to read and interpret electrical and related blueprints as well as work from drawings, verbal instructions, and sketches.
  • Must have the ability to prepare, format, proofread, and edit documents which are concise and professional.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and in Google platform (i.e., Sites, Slides, Drive, Docs, Sheets).

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, or electrical components. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Weekly travel is required - approximately 80% - depending on the needs of the business.
  • On Call including overnight, weekend and holiday assignments may be required.

The hourly pay rate for this role is $45.00-55.00 per hour.
