ELECTRICIAN
Nanaimo
The opportunity
We are seeking an Electrician to join our team in Nanaimo. Electricians perform maintenance, repairs and construction work to electrical system and equipment on marine structures, buildings and ground facilities.
Reporting to the Trades Supervisor, Electricians are responsible for:
- Inspecting marine structures, buildings and ground facilities; completing inspection documentation; planning repairs; estimating time, travel and labour required to perform the job
- Servicing equipment mechanisms and coordinating maintenance and service levels including unscheduled repairs, upgrades, call-outs, emergency repairs; diagnosing and troubleshooting problems; designing, constructing and installing parts and/or components
- Ordering and maintaining and adequate inventory and stock of essential components relevant to equipment requirements
- Troubleshooting breakdowns/malfunctions, tracing electrical and hydraulic circuits, reading electrical and hydraulic schematics, using test equipment and analyzing results
- Compiling and submitting written reports and correspondence, liaison with engineers, consultants and the Electrical Inspection Branch. Reviewing and preparing as-built documents and diagrams
- Providing a lead hand role for new employees, apprentices, etc., including input in performance assessment
- Performing additional duties including meetings, training courses, hiring and administering contract forces, travelling to work sites and operating equipment; assisting other trades in performance of their work

- Ability to plan and organize tools, materials, time and procedures to safely and efficiently meet requirements
- Ability to complete assigned tasks to relevant standards with minimal supervision
- Ability to anticipate and analyze problems and initiate appropriate solutions
- Ability to react quickly and appropriately to emergencies
- Ability to research, accurately interpret and apply trades reference materials
- Ability to direct and guide others in the trade
- Ability to safely meet physical demands of the job including working at heights over water and structures
- Proven background of respect for Employer’s tools and property
- Basic knowledge of WCB regulations and safe working practices
- Working knowledge of relevant materials, tools and equipment
- Basic knowledge of AC power generation
- Working knowledge of PLC (South and Central regions)
- Basic knowledge of PLC (North region only)

- Valid Field Safety Representative B
