The Electrician installs, repairs and maintains all electrical equipment and systems according to approved standards, by-laws and the Ontario Electrical Safety Code.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Grade 12 education or equivalent
• Electrical Technician graduate an asset
• Must possess a valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification - 309A Construction and Maintenance Electrician OR 442A Industrial Electrician
• Must possess a Blueprint Reading Course
• Must have 5 years apprenticeship training (basic, intermediate and advanced) and proven experience working with electrical equipment, motors and electrical systems
• Demonstrated experience with operation and maintenance of high voltage equipment up to 13,800V, installation, configuration and maintenance of electronic devices including but not limited to VFDs and operations and maintenance of emergency power systems including testing and operation of diesel powered generating equipment
• Ability to work from verbal instructions, drawings and/or blueprints with minimal supervision
• Practical experience with building automation controls installation and programming is an asset
• Demonstrated knowledge of local by-laws, the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and any other regulations and codes relevant to completing electrical work
• Working knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLC’s) -SIEMENS, ALLEN-BRADLEY, etc
• Basic computer skills to allow completion and information entry into Computerized Maintenance Management System
• Numerical and spatial abilities required
• Colour discrimination is needed to differentiate wire colours for proper connection
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to handle a variety of changing duties, from maintenance procedures to construction work
• Knowledgeable in the theory of Arc Flash and measures required for the protection of persons and equipment in at risk environments
• Good work performance and attendance record is essential
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Repairs, installs, replaces and tests electrical and electronic circuits, equipment and appliances, ensuring job completion forms appropriately filled in
• Operates, Inspects and tests electrical lighting, signal, communication and power circuits and equipment up to 13800 V
• Installs new wiring and electrical machinery
• Adheres to all safety regulations and provides regular scheduled maintenance checks
• Observes electrical devices in operation and troubleshoots unusual operation and makes repairs as necessary
• Responsible for maintaining inventory, including ordering supplies and tracking supplies used for work orders
• Maintains effective communication with immediate supervisor in relation to coordination of work, scheduling, and policies and procedures
• Performs and carries out other duties and assignments as directed by Manager
