The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities is seeking a skilled Electrician 2 to serve as part of a statewide roving maintenance team supporting Ohio’s Developmental Centers. This role is ideal for an experienced electrician who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and working across multiple facilities to ensure safe and reliable electrical systems that support 24/7 residential and clinical operations.

As a roving team member, you will travel to Developmental Centers to perform electrical installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities that directly impact the health, safety, and daily lives of individuals served.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems & equipment across multiple facilities
  • Support critical infrastructure including electrical distribution systems, generators, transfer switches, lighting, and controls
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance to ensure system reliability and compliance with safety standards
  • Respond to urgent electrical issues and assist in restoring essential services
  • Maintain accurate records, diagrams, and maintenance documentation
  • Coordinate work with facility maintenance staff and contractors to minimize operational disruptions
  • Follow all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout and proper PPE usage

Work Schedule

  • 4-day work week (4 x 10-hour shifts)
  • Schedule may vary based on facility needs
  • Flexibility required for travel & operational demands

Working Conditions

This is a statewide roving position supporting all 8 DODD Developmental Centers:

  • Frequent statewide travel to assigned facilities is required
  • Exposure to energized electrical equipment
  • Indoor & outdoor work environments
  • Overtime, call-back, or emergency response may be required
  • Physical activity including lifting, climbing, bending, and working in confined or elevated spaces

Qualifications

18 months training or 18 months verifiable experience in electrical work under supervision of experienced electrician; formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication & division & in reading & writing common English vocabulary.

-Or 6 months experience as Electrician 1, 52281.

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

  • Hourly wage will be paid at step 1, unless otherwise specified by collective bargaining agreement or rules outlined in the ORC/OAC.
  • The final candidate selected for the position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. Rule 5123-2-02, “Background Investigations for Employment,” outlines disqualifying offenses that will preclude an applicant from being employed by the Department of Developmental Disabilities.
  • The final applicant selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to the appointment to test for illegal drug use. An applicant with a positive test result will not be offered employment.
  • No additional materials will be accepted after the closing date; in addition, you must clearly demonstrate how you meet minimum qualifications.
  • Requires travel throughout State of Ohio & may require overnight stay. Must be willing & able to secure a Driver License OR supply your own transportation.
