Job Description

Main or Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities

  1. Perform detailed and complex electrical cable assembly and harnessing, including crimping with hand tools, wiring, connecting, bundling, terminating, and finishing electrical wires into functional units per drawing/specification.
  2. Prepare individual wires, terminate with connectors or terminals, bundle wires with protective jackets or sleeve as required, and perform rigorous testing to confirm performance, safety, and workmanship requirements.
  3. Perform surface-mount soldering, related electrical assembly tasks, harness work, point-to-point wiring, electrical ring-out, and use of applicable test equipment.
  4. Perform mechanical assembly of components, subassemblies, and assemblies using drawings, bills of material, work instructions, and verbal or written direction.
  5. Install, align, fasten, torque, and inspect mechanical hardware and components using manual, power, pneumatic, and precision measuring tools as required.
  6. Work from detailed blueprints, assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, color codes, bills of material, engineering notes, verbal direction, and written instructions.
  7. Interpret ECNs (Engineering Change Notice), ECOs (Engineering Change Order), TDs (Temporary Deviations), and related documentation.
  8. Perform engineering changes, rework, in-process inspection, final inspection, and workmanship verification in accordance with established quality requirements.
  9. Maintain clean, organized, and safe work practices while following established quality, ESD, and safety standards.
  10. Status supervisor and/or lead daily on job progress, blockers, material concerns, quality concerns, and support needed.

Other Duties as Assigned:

  1. Provide input for design improvements, assembly sequence improvements, tooling improvements, and manufacturability improvements.
  2. Support cross-training between electrical and mechanical assembly activities as production needs require.
  3. Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of four years of experience that encompasses detailed and complex (close tolerances) electrical cable assembly and harnessing for manufacturing including crimping with hand tools, wiring, connecting, bundling, and finishing electrical wires into a functional unit per the drawing/specification. Prepare individual wires, terminate with connectors or terminals, bundle them together with a protective jacket, and conduct rigorous testing to ensure performance and safety. Requires surface-mount soldering experience. Crimping experience with hand tools is necessary. Experience with mechanical assembly, hardware installation, torque practices, fitting/alignment, rework, and inspection is required or strongly preferred. Requires strong diligence and ability to perform close-tolerance work.

  • Education: High School degree or equivalent. Training or courses in E/M assembly, cable, and wire harnesses. Soldering training or education preferred.
  • Skills/Technical Requirements: Ability to read and interpret, assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, color code, Bill of Materials, and detailed blueprints. Use soldering guns, manual, power and pneumatic hand tools, and measuring instruments. Effective written and oral communication skills. Ability to read and understand written instructions in English. Proficient in utilizing computers for MS Office and ERP (Oracle preferred) and to update issues in tracking system (Jira).

Job Conditions:

Physical Demand/Strengths:

Prolonged bending, kneeling, crawling, and laying down; ability to stand for eight hours; lift up to 25 pounds; must be able to distinguish color. Ability to work on a ladder for assembly.

Protective Devices Required:

Safety glasses are required in all work areas. Other protective devices required as applicable, including ESD protection, gloves, or other PPE based on the work area, material handling needs, and task-specific requirements.
